SCEE President: PS3 To Win By March 2008

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has told GamesIndustry.biz that PlayStation 3 will be the clear leader in the next-gen console market within the next nine months.

"PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will," he predicted. "It's something that is going to be a slow burner, and suddenly it's like a tsunami; it will just overtake you." Reeves said he does not agree that Xbox 360 will dominate during the competitive Christmas season, despite recent comments to the contrary from Microsoft's Peter Moore.

"I know it's nice to focus on one year, but he said the same last year - 'We're going to win the holiday season.' But they didn't; they missed that opportunity," stated Reeves. "I honestly don't think that just having the games on Xbox 360 is enough."

His comments came following the announcement that SCEE is introducing a new PS3 bundle which will retail for the same price as the standalone console did previously. When asked if he thought GBP 425 / GBP 599 was still a high price to ask consumers to pay Reeves replied, "It is, but surprisingly, people are paying that amount of money for it. Now they'll get two games and an extra controller as well."

ps3 has soem good games like heavnely sword, UT3, and uncharted

but it doesnt have a system seller yet like halo 3...

The comment "I honestly don't think that just having the games on Xbox 360 is enough" is obviously a knock on the 360'shardware.

And by "winning" i think he means outselling the other consoles. We all know damn well it won't be ahead in total sales any time soon.

Hmm far away... in 9 months... The only chance that has to happen is for the Wii and PS3 sales to flip flop today. Though really the statement is showing that they are compleatly relying on the holiday season to give them a boost and hope that then people will start buying PS3s enmass. Guess we'll find out, but if the pricetag for the PS3 is still that high, lots of little kiddies are going to be sad because their parents won't drop that much money on them.

why u think the 360 is at 11million.....

between the time halo 2 came out and Forza 1 came out...about 6-7 million 360s were moved....

Now if u dont see something similar between halo 3 and let's say... turok(which is in febraury) then u must bee blind...

yeh seems they've grown a bit of a big head, hands down they did show the best content however this does seem quite impossible.

So the PS3 is going to start outselling the 360 by about 600,000 units each month and then it would only break even with the PS3 by March 08. Do they honestly realize how many units they are actually behind the 360?swanlee

Not to mention the Wii is outselling it by about a million units per month right now.

I really don't see the PS3 even moving up to second by that time if it's not even outselling the 360 now. :?

Plus when Christmas comes along its going to have to contend with Halo 3 and a $200 disadvantage and possibly even a price cut which I don't think its a battle that Sony is going to win...

That might make sense if Halo wasn't already a huge series and %95 of its fans hadn't already bought a 360 for that game. Fact is Halo3 will sell a ton but make little impact on 360 console sales.

Maybe Sony's just pulling some cow logic and they're pretending the Wii doesn't count instead of accepting the reality that it's kicking their asses.Smoke_ManMuscle

Even if the Wii didn't count, they would still be getting their butts handed to them by MS.
