Scenario: It's October 2005

I was thinking about this myself and am interested what the rest of SW says:

It's 2005, none of the 7th gen console have been released yet. However, you know everything that is going to happen in the gaming world up until today's date. You know which games are coming out, how good they are going to be, which features they will have, etc.

For the sake of discussion, you are only allowed to choose one console and have to stick with it throughout the entire generation. Which do you pick and why?

Back in 2005 I purchased xbox... today I regret that! Hope I had sticked with PS3

360 for the jrpg's then i'll sell it in 2009 for a ps3

Cheapest Blu-ray on the market at the time, rechargeable controller, no overheating fiasco, Wi-Fi, Internet Browser,  Uncharted: Drakes fortune/ Heavenly Sword/ LittleBigPlanet/ Resistance months later, Free Online.

ps3 easily but i wouldve bought the mgs 80 gig model.

reason-

• free online
• exclusive games
• gears of war wasn't as good as i thought it would be. actually none of their exclusives have lived up to the hype

i say this a lot but if i had more money, i wouldve went with pc/ps3 combo.

Probably PS3. 

Though if I got the Wii only I could have caught up on a lot of the Gamecube and Virtual Console titles I missed out on in my years...

PS3. Games I like, no RROD at launch and the cheapest blu ray playe at the time

Xbox 360 simply for having the most games of the three, and because it has the only worthwhile online FPS.

Xbox, not paying $500 for a console lol and having to wait 2 years for decent games.

I'd still get a Wii. The Xbox is awful and the PS3 was $599. I would change one thing though-- I'd get a better PC in December 2005 than I actually did.

Yeah, I was gonna edit after reading rest of OP.

I'd probably go 360 if I had to choose one. Tough though cause I really like a few exclusives on each platform.

The Wii. I enjoy the Nintendo franchises the most overall.

PS3. Besides Gears and fable I regret ever getting a 360. 

The wii was lacking in 3rd party games but it would be hard to have never played Brawl,  Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Super Paper Mario, and other great 1st party games.

Goddamn it... That's tough. Looking back, if I could choose two consoles, I'd easily say PS3 and Wii... There are lots of exclusives on PS3 I want to play.

Somewhat hard to answer. I've enjoyed my time with both the 360 and PS3 and have played a lot of their libraries. The Wii I never bought and still to this day have not played through a single Wii game (obviously). So I'd probably get that and mess around with it, if only for the sake of variety.

Or just stick with my trusty old PS2 and GameCube for a long time and comb through their libraries (particularly the PS2, there are still about two dozen titles I haven't played on it yet)

In terms of a well-rounded, thorough library lasting throughout the entire gen? 360 no doubt.

No offense Charizard, but why would you ever choose 360? Do you really enjoy Gears and Halo that much?

Hard choice. I'd say 360 just for the sheer amount of hours I got out of Halo: Reach. Definitely would have missed out on some great games though
