Who really gives a damn whether its HDD or flash based, all mp3 players are put into the same sales category since they are all the same devices in the end, regardless of what storage method they use. And HDD players have crappy battery life compared to flash based players.

you so clearly are misinformed. ms went into the mp3 market aiming to take down sony and the competition.

they took out the competition and they continue to gain momentum and market share. the ipod does not have better features than the zune. they are about the same with the zune offering a slightly bigger screen. 1 million units is impressive for a company that never made an mp3 player EVER and have only been in the market for 8 months. sony has been in the mp3 market for years and they have nowhere near the amount of market share as ms. ms will not quit until they dominate. you should know that. everyone knows that. you are the biggest failure in this thread, just admit it and move on.

btw, keep in mind that ms sold 1 million zunes in america only because they have yet to launch it in europe and asia.

That still is very unimpressive, IPOD sells four times that amount in America, and 1 million in almost a year is a far cry from "impressive". And you want them to compete against something that's selling faster then the IPOD, along with things the market doesn't care about such as features which Microsoft has been prodominatly known for? I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous.

to get back on topic, this thread is about if ms were to announce a portable gaming console, not a portable mp3 player. hopefully they do announce an xbox mobile or xbox mini because i would love to have one. plus the head of XNA, j Allard, is running the zune department meaning he could be working on a portable xbox.

the zune owns 11% of the HDD based mp3 players, not the flash based. this makes them the second best-selling hdd based mp3 player (amazingly it's only sold in the us now, europe will get it in the fall, most likely the zune 2.0 and the flash based zunes.)

latinrage69

That still is next to nothing. The Neo Geo Pocket was once the second best selling handheld with 10% of the handheld market, but did it suceed? No, it failed miserably because of the Gameboy Color. What's the point of owning 11% if your competitor owns 70%? No matter how you spin this, they aren't doing that good.

sounds like sony. once the leader of the gaming industry and now is in last place. before them was nintendo. they were the market leader, then lost to sony. the same may happen to apple and the ipod. remember, the average consumer is fickle. they will buy whatever is popular.

What are you talking about sales of the IPOD are increasing as well as the LONG distant Zune. And you just gave a massive self-owned. You claimed that the GBC sounded like something once on top to be overthrown, however the DS is the fastest selling system of all-time. Seriously just quit it your making no sense. The Zune isn't doing that good compared to the IPOD....ACCEPT IT AND LIVE WITH IT.

actually the only self-ownage here belongs to you because i never once mentioned the gameboy color. you did. seems like you don't know when to quit. is the ipod doing better than the zune? yes. have they been out longer? yes, 5 years actually. have they garnered a following of izombies? hell yes. is the zune catching up? yes. slowly but surely they are catching up.

That's the reference I was talking about the handheld market and you said #1 which would be Nintendo.

And catching up? Do you have any proof of this? IPOD sales aren't dropping, actually they're strong as ever with Apple making around 48% of the profit from it.

And the fact that you gave me a link to how it was doing at it's peak two months ago, is just showing how "strong they are really going". But what's REALLY funny is the fact that despite 8 months they've only peaked by .6 higher then it's debut. And have been bumping up and down by less then 3% on average on share. No offense but that's laughably pathetic compared to the IPOD. And now you want them to compete with Nintendo? Especially with the lack of Western developers in the handheld scene? To be honest I'd like to see it just so I could laugh at how bad it would do. If the 360 doing so bad in Japan as a console, I'd like to see it as a handheld there and the rest of the world.

So again, stop posting you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Umm no YOU fail. Microsoft was going after Apple, and only getting 11% of the market when Apple has over 4-5 times more then that is just utter pathetic. And think about it, it has MORE features, EASY to USE, and better everything. Now Microsoft is going to go against systems with high third party support and biggest appeal to the main region of the platforms market?

I mean idk about you but 1 million sold isn't really all that impressive, especially if your going after a market where you need at leasts 17 to make some kind of profit.

I'm sorry but Microsoft would get chewed up and spit out. So YOU FAIL.

latinrage69

Apple seriously owns like 75% of the market for mp3 players, Creative is the second largest, the Zune is tied for 3rd with Samsung and Sony most likely. I highly doubt that MS has an 11% market share when almost everyone I see with an mp3 player either owns an iPod, Creative or a smaller flash based mp3 player like a Samsung, I have never seen a Zune in stores or in the hands of people who listen to music.

the zune owns 11% of the HDD based mp3 players, not the flash based. this makes them the second best-selling hdd based mp3 player (amazingly it's only sold in the us now, europe will get it in the fall, most likely the zune 2.0 and the flash based zunes.)

That makes no difference. If you look at the products history it only goes up and down but not moving by much. The fact that it has only gained 1.1 % of the market share during their almost year outing is just proof of how much of a complete failure it is from being the "IPOD Killer". If they can't beat Apple how the hell are they going to beat Nintendo?

once again by your logic that would mean that the ps3 is a complete and utter failure. the fact is that ms is new to the mp3 market and needs time to grow. apple had 5 years to grow. what really sold people on the ipod was the ease of use and the click wheel. the zune is just as easy to use but doesn't have click wheel ( it's patented by apple. )

sorry about the snap. anyway, the zune is set to zune in europe and possibly in australia in the fall of this year. you may also receive the zune 2.0 and flash based zune instead of the off the shelf toshiba gigabeat that was rebranded as a zune like us americans.

Sweet, because my Gigabeat S30s screen is busted, and im either going to fix the screen or buy a new player.

If I can get my hands on this rumoured Zune 2.0, then I guess its out with the old, and in with the Zune.

Grah I hate iPods. :P

there's no pic. this thread is about if ms were to announce a portable xbox, what would you think would be included (hardware-wise).
