The ultimate question. Sci Fi vs Fantasy! And how they apply to gaming to be specific. Not movies or other media.

My pic is Fantasy. Just think fantasy worlds or richer than sci fi worlds. Like the fantasy races (elves, dwarves, etc) more than alien races.

Mention your fav game from either category if you want.

Sci-Fi definitely. Makes for a much more interesting story and more possibilities on the path it can take. Fantasy is appalling to me honestly, the talk of elves, dwarves, ogres and the like is dumb to me. It's not interesting to me.

Mostly Sci Fi but then there's games like TW3 that make see what I didn't get before.

High fantasy stuff like in Morrowind is great....much better than Skyim or Oblivion.

Sci-fi is good and all but I'll go for Fantasy. Fantasy gives you that feel of different culture of races like Orc, Elves, Spellcasters and so much more. I enjoy playing games in Medieval times such as Witcher 3 and Skyrim so Fantasy gives you more then Sci-fi.

I like both but Sci-fi usually wins for me. Probably due to the fact that Sci-fi opens the door to more interesting possibilities.

Hard for me to answer. I tend to prefer sci-fi, but most of the games I end up playing are fantasy. Guess it's because I usually prefer melee combat in games as opposed to shooting, and that's generally more prevalent in fantasy.

Tough question. I like both actually. But I think when it comes to movies, I like Sci Fi more but when it comes to games, I prefer Fantasy.

Favorite Fantasy: The Witcher 3

Favorite Sci Fi: Mass Effect 2

I HATE fantasy settings. I have tried so many times to get into these types of games. The Witcher 1-3, Skyrim/Oblivion, Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, WOW, Shadow of Mordor and many many others. It's just super boring to me. In contrast I LOVE Sci Fi settings. Mass Effect was great, Titanfall is my favorite shooter of this gen so far and games like Star Citizen and No Mans Sky have me pretty excited. If I have to choose between The Witcher 3 and FTL, I would choose FTL everytime and that game could be run on a calculator. The difference is the setting.

Sci-fi, I feel there's a lot more diversity there in game design, whereas fantasy often feels very generic from almost everything from story, universe, to gameplay styles.

I prefer hard scifi, then realistic and then historical settings

Many scifi are plagued with fantasy anyway, even in franchise like star trek

I consistenly avoid fantasy settings, except for a few

For movies, I prefer Sci-Fi; but for games, I prefer Fantasy.

I guess the difference is because for movies, the most important thing is the story and I think Sci-Fi stories are generally more interesting than Fantasy stories. However, for games, the most important thing is the gameplay and Fantasy games will usually involve sword fighting while Sci-Fi games will usually involve shooting, and I'm a much bigger fan of sword fighting than I am shooting.
