The only downside was the controls. I have a feeling though, the controls were put in that way purposely. I'm still buying this game. With Professor Layton, SMT Devil Survivor, Mario and Luigi: Bowser's story, and Scribblenauts, my DS is going to be busy.
Yeah it's a bit disappointing. IGN was hyping it to at least 9.5 status! Not to mention they gave it Best of Show at E3! The game still looks great, and I'll probably get it, but damn, an 8.7 is a disappointment.
I'm getting the impression, though, that this game's scores won't properly reflect the quality of the actual experience, since the actual game mechanics (which are peripheral in Scribblenauts' case) are a little janky and traditional reviews focus on those kinds of problems first. But that's not necessarily wrong.
8.7 is a great score. gamespot tend to rate slightly lower than ign so i expect it to get 8.5 here, maybe an 8. as this is system wars and this game was hyped 9+ and goty as it stands it'z mazzive flopporz! if i had a ds i would definitely get this game though.
A shame about the controls for this game.. I'm sure they'll make a sequel for it in a year or so that will be much better and people will say "this is how the first one should've been!".

People who were hyping it like crazy did. It is a very interesting concept that suffers a bit from bad execution, especially from the controls and physics.
That's what happens when you overhype. This will be a great game though, and I'm really looking forward to it. The next victim will either be ODST or UC2. My bet is on UC2 simply because of it's mega hype.
it seems about right. from my experience that game has some control issues and I am very surprised they managed to ignore the controls every time they played a demo of the game. That being said itsstill a really good game.
This is a huge flop in terms at ign. This was their swan song for 12 months. They hyped it up completely and it couldn't get AAA there. I mean that is a flop o fa number. I think more than 60% believed this was AAAE on the hype thread, and numerous people were hyping it up as goty.

I completely agree with IGN. This is one of their better Reviews. The game has horrible controls. an 8.7 is perfect. GS should give it either 8.5 or 9.0, for a right score.

I've had the game since Sunday and I think it's in that range. It's basically a DS version of LittleBigPlanet, which I also loved. The thing about the controls is that you don't necessarily need to move Maxwell precisely for 90% of the game. There are very few occasions where precision - especially on-foot precision ;) - is required to obtain the Starite. I think the game still has 9.0 potential here but I wouldn't bank on it. It's just a fun game - perhaps the best platformer this year. It combines the skill and intelligence of N+ and EXIT with the artistic creativity of LBP. Definitely commendable.
Good to see Scribblenauts doing better than Gran Turismo PSP. :D Wowza! I still have issues with the controls, though. But, a pretty nice game overall.
sounds about right. i picked it up today, played through a bit. controls are terrible, but only if you cant hit the screen accurately. missing an item often takes you where you dont want to go, and sometimes connecting ropes and stuff is sometimes finnicky. other than that and the fact that some levels can be super easily finished with a blob and some wings, the game is pretty fun.
