SDC Report: 3DS Sales Double That Of PS Vita in the US in July

The NPD Group is going to release its official sales numbers for the month of July this Thursday, and ahead of that, we have some early estimates.

It seems like the Vitahas sunk like a stone in the US, like it did in Japan, especially in face of competition from the 3DS, which sold double of what the PS Vita did.

On the console front, the Xbox 360 is expected to have topped the charts again, for the nineteenth consecutive month.

The full hardware numbers, as expected, are:

360 - 200,000 (-28%) / 201,000 (-27%)
PS3 - 140,000 (-3%) / 152,000 (+5%)
3DS - 121,000 (+32) / 125,000 (+37)
Wii - 78,000 (-58%) / 75,000 (-60%)
DS - 100,000 (-67%) / 109,000 (-64%)
Vita - 60,000 (n/a) / 61,000 (n/a)
PSP - 10,000 (-84%) / 9,000 (-86%)
PS2 - 1,000 (-88%) / n/a

There's no doubt the 3DS has a better library of games right now.

But also remember it's been out for almost a year and a half.

Vitas been out for 5 months. Like I always say. Give something a year before we start calling doomed.

Because 3DS was lacking for quite some time.

So Vita has 33% of the monthly marketshare, it's actually better than I thought.

In this case I would say 3DS is underperforming relative to my expectations. Let's see if the upcoming software lineup, 3DS XL and NSMB 2 can revive 3DS in the same way DS Lite + NSMB boosted DS.

LOL this is just sad. The fact that 3DS is doing better than the Vita proves that Sony doesn't even know how to handletheir own handhelds (pun not intended). Remember when people thought Vita would be the downfall of 3DS? Funny how they bought a Vita and got screwed over in the end. That's what happens when you trust a bad corporate company like Sony.

This is what happens when you have boneheads for marketing. Unlike Microsoft, Sony doesn't know how to advertise their products properly. They think people want to buy a portable PS3? Wow.

When I say marketshare I obviously meant gen 8 handhelds.

3DS/Vita is 33% (monthly rate) which is the same as PSP/DS LTD and that's frankly way too high for Vita. I expect 3DS/Vita to end up 80%/20% worldwide when all is said and done, so Nintendo better start releasing games now that 3DS will be profitable again.

I don't know why DS sales are so high tbh.

DS has only a 6 attatch rate? GTFO! How can people buy so few games for a system overflowing with them?

I guess lower attach rate comes with the territory when your install base is that freakin huge.:?

I expect 3DS to outsell Vita 2:1 globally when both finally stop production.

But I already own both, so in reality I just want more good/great games. :D

I buy all my multiplatform games for my Vita as well as exclusive games.

For 3DS, I tend to only buy exclusive games because the experience of multiplatform games is better on other platforms.
