Was reading this article and it got me thinking. Sega has and continues to keep making stupid mistakes. I think it boils down to the people in charge really, in that they have no clue what they are doing on. And thus, personally i think, they are running the company down to the ground.

They've been at it so long I've just discounted their seemingly intentional self-destructive shenanigans as cries for help.

Sega has always been a mess. But they were the big alternative to Nintendo at the time so that was all that mattered. And its a shame too because they are sitting on a treasure trove of ips that they refuse to do anything with.

Man, it would be a massive blow to gaming if sega goes. They have soooo much potential. It kills me they haven't made another Jet set radio or Panzer dragoon game. Or something else with that level of creativity and polish.

But if they want money fast, all they have to do is port a bunch of games to PC and they will sell like hotcakes. Look at how much Valkyria chronicles just sold on PC. I think 5 guys ported that game, too.

No, Sega is not killing itself, not in the slightest. Sega Sammy financially remains one of the world's biggest gaming companies, bigger than EA in terms of assets, for example.

However, most of Sega Sammy's income is coming from Pachinko/Pachislot machines. Even if they stopped making video games altogether, they'd still be a big company from Pachinko/Pachislot machines alone. And even within their video games division, they're making a lot of cash from mobile devices as well as PC. It's only their console division that's doing really badly, and to an extent their arcade video game division has also been declining.

Compared to their risk-taking in the '90s, Sega is more conservative today, and that's helped them remain a very profitable company, even if they won't ever return to their heights of the '90s.

As a gaming company they're pretty much doomed and Capcom is following them down a similar path of self destruction.

I can't wait until they're gone and the ips go on sale. Sonic would be great for Nintendo. Phantasy Star and Yakuza would be great for Playstation. Jet Set would be great for Xbox.

This^^ I've been a Sega fanboy long enough to understand that this is not new behavior for the once mighty video game giant. They seem to be one of the worst run companies in the industry. It's like Sega hates Sega. I don't get it...I always assumed that if I loved them enough, they'd change...guess I should've loved them more. :(

It's okay, it's not your fault... somethings these things happen in life :'(

No but yeah, I've never really cared about any gaming company aside from Nintendo and, now, Valve. Aside from these two the only thing I care about is the IP and its quality, so if SEGA dies and Nintendo gets a hold of Sonic, then fine by me.

Sega has been dead for a while anyone who has paid attention to the industry has know that. Now if you want to pick on a company that is slowly killing it's self that is Capcom. They are close to making Sega status.

Sega still owns Creative Assembly which has the successful and popular Total War series (the recent installment Attila, apparently is everything Rome 2 should have been) and Alien Isolation..

Sonic with Nintendo and Jet Set with XBOX = Rage

Phantasy Star and Yakuza with Sony = "I'm OK with this"

The reactions I see IF that happened.

Sega is hardly dead.

They're making profits off of their Alien and Total War licenses.

I just don't think Sega has the marketing budget to compete on consoles. They published quality games that didn't sell last gen. The PC is a much better place for them. The PC makes more sense than consoles for the vast majority of Japanese companies, really.

Sega own Creative Assembly and Relic, I know that doesn't mean much to the console crowd but what that comes down to is the Total War franchise and Company of Heroes. Add on to that, they have the I.P. rights to Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

They (Sega/Sammy) may be dropping the console market but they are far from dying, especially when you add in the non video games market where most of their money comes from. It may be good foresight from them when you consider the decline of console gaming in the face of increased competition from PC and mobile (where Sega are focussing their attention).

Nope, Dreamcast days where when SEGA where at it's best. Too bad they didn't have enough money to keep it alive.
