Arguably all the three companies used to be legendary and all of them had eventually fallen from grace.

Which of these 3 functions the best and has biggest prospects for the future from now on?

My money is ironically on SEGA.

Capcom only has Street Fighter which comes out in irregular seldom intervals. Resident Evil has become irrelevant. Moreover, they don't have any other consistent franchise anymore bar some b-tier like Dead Rising.

Konami? Their last and best bet was MGS but they blew it now and that will be left from now on is Pro Evolution Soccer...

BUT SEGA?

They actually have two quality and consistent franchises in Football Manager and Total War games which are both high sellers and critical successes. Besides they have Yakuza and have acquired Atlus so they own Persona.

I find this situation utterly ironic since everybody had written off SEGA a long time ago but now it seems other companies are doing a lot worse and SEGA isn't doing that bad actually regardless of competitors. It's a shame they don't do anything more with their legendary franchises but hey - it could've been worse...

What do you think?

Sega come on.....such an innovative gaming company in their day. And while they have fallen on bad times they still have the good IP here and there. Recently got into the Yakuza series. I just hope Sega can continue to improve. A gaming world without Sega is a shame.

Without a doubt Konami, Capcom and (supposedly) SEGA are trying to make amends and appeal to fans again.

Other than Capcom just my gut feeling. I would have to look up what they have in the pipelines.

Well as much shit as Sega gets, at least they are not turning all that IP into Pachinko machines exclusively.

What's wrong with Capcom?

Capcom had a rough gen, with all the Megaman fiasco, they destroyed Devil May Cry after 4 and RE is indeed irrelevant, but they still produce great games every now and then, Street Fighter 4 was a huge succes SFV is looking great as well, i expect good things from Capcom.

I can't say SEGA, but the fact that the only good Sonic games are made by Nintendo because SEGA has been unable to prove that Sonic is still a relevant character in the industry instead of just a nice guest, is enough for me to call them among the worst.

Konami is dead...after Phantom Pain, they are dead.

Oh you said currently?

I guess Sega. They still make good games. Binary Domain is fun, Yakuza looks neato, Valkyria Chronicles is a legit classic, and they are pubing Atlus, Creative Assembly, and Relic, so there is a lot to work with there.

Capcom is a shell of their former glory, and Konami has been on the downswing for a long ass time. Even that PS2 gen, what else was worth playing from Konami besides Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Zone of the Enders?

Im not sure how you consider Capcom fallen... constant free support of Monster Hunter 4U; the best fighter in the biz with Ultra SF4 with what looks like a promising sequel in the works, which will received continued support and balancing, not to mention a chance to earn the dlc with in game rewards; and finally listening to fans and remaking the classic RE2... if anything Capcom is on a roll.

My vote goes to the company that is turning Castlevania into a slot machine.

EDIT: as in my Vote for the worse goes to Konami :P, capcom clearly may fav of the 3..... sorry reversed the OP question

Capcom>Konami>Sega

Capcom takes a bunch of heat, but they are actually very cool. Not only do they have awesome IPs with great games but they also always try to make new IPs.

Konami has Metal gear, Castlevania, Pro Evolution Soccer, and thats about it, they release a lot of weak stuff.

Sega is a gem, they have a lot of IPs and also create a bunch, they also try and support all platforms well and i respect them for that. Also got mad love for PC. Total War, Alien Isolation, Valkyria Chronicles,

Sega screws up games really bad though, so they are kinda the worst and most disappointing.

Right now?

Sega>Capcom>Konami. i would argue that Sega is no longer 'fallen,' it took a decade there to find its footing, but it has found its comfort zone and regularly churns out good games now, Sonic trash notwithstanding.

In their heyday? Much tougher. I'd say Capcom, Sega, Konami in that order, but all three were seriously excellent.

Sega have never fallen. Just recently they published/made: Bayonetta, Vanquish, Renegade Ops, Binary Domain, Valkyria Chronicles, Condemned, Alien Isolation & Yakuza, I wish all companies could fall as badly.

Capcom have slipped a little, but are still making good games and like Square, they seem to be correcting the ship.

Konami are dead, they apparently treat staff like rubbish, have alienated their most talented developers and forever tarnished their best IPs and are heading in a frightening direction. After MGSV (unless this is all a meta joke) they are done.

I just looked through by game collection to find the last game that I enjoyed from these 3 companies, they are:

Capcom - Dead Rising 3 (2013)

Sega - Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed (2012)

Konami - Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (2007)

So Konami is pretty much dead, they haven't made a game that I enjoyed in 8 years and even that was just a remake of an older game. That's sad because back in the 90s, Konami was my 3rd favorite game developer after Nintendo and RARE.

Ring Of Red , you can say that is where Valkyria Chronicles got its gameplay.

Capcom seems to be actually turning the ship around to me it looks like.. Revelations 2 was solid and fun, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition was very good, RE2 Remake, Mega Man Legacy Collection, SFV.. I just need them to announce Resident Evil 7 and return the series to its roots and a sequel to Dragon's Dogma was would be great

As long as Capcom releases a quality Monster Hunter game on Steam, I'll forgive its shortcomings.

MGS5PP will probably be my last game that I'll buy from Konami.

Sega made me happy with VC port on Steam. As long as they quality release on that level I'll definitely support them.

@Salt_The_Fries: Overall ill say SEGA .. They tried new things first and they had some of the most memorable games out of all , on consoles or arcades with Capcom being close second.

As of this very moment is very difficult to decide ... all 3 are crappies crap with Capcom having a small lead to me simply because of SF/MvC series ... Its a tie between the three, once some the best gaming companies in the world ... Now they are just ...decent.

They all equally sucks now, maybe Sega edges out a little having Atlus, who knows how long that'll last as even they don't seem interest in a self preservation publishing strategy, a big problem with myopic Japanese gaming companies these days.

Also, there's first-party IPs like Persona, Total War, Football Manager, etc.

Anyway, a lot of gamers get so hung-up on Sonic that they forget about all the great new first-party IPs that Sega have been coming out with. Sega is probably in the best shape they've been since the death of the Dreamcast.

And even when it comes to Sonic, Colours and Generations were great platformers, but Sega have failed to follow-up with similar platformer quality. Nevertheless, Sonic is still a big cash-cow for Sega, making a ton of money on mobile devices. That, along with all the Pachinko money they've been making, gives Sega a lot of cash to experiment with great new IPs like the ones mentioned above.

I think the answer is very obvious. It is Konami. Regardless of how hard Capcom and Sega have fallen they are still trying to do a comeback. I cannot say the same about Konami. They clearly said that after MGSV is released they are done with home console games and will focus on pachinko machines and cancerous freemium mobile trash.

Capcom

They have still gone an experimented, trying out new ideas, even with irrational fan hatred. The whole Megaman things was crazy (was destroyed by the same guy who people went and invested in his kickstarted, and that game got delayed 4000 times.) I see no reason why people were upset with them for bringing out new Ip and continuing big franchises, because they didn't want to risk money outside 5 quarters for MM, which was never a really big series to begin with.

I mean people complain about Lost Planet but that was a pretty good run it had. We also got games like Dragons Dogma.

Sega would be second because Sega never really fell, even there fumbles with Sonic sold, Sonic didn't start becoming a sales irrelevance until releasing a main=line game exclusive to the Wii and going a silly kindergarden TV show route to the story.

Capcom still has Monster Hunter and it's better and more successful than ever before. Konami, on the other hand, will pretty much lose all relevance once MGS5 is released.

That would be SEGA for me, it's great they have ported Valkyrie Chronicles to PC & they have seen such great positive response on Steam for the same.

I'm not happy with Capcom nor that I'm a big fan of the Street Fighter series, and I gave up on RE series. Now if only they would release HD ports of Monster Hunter games to PC (as they have already did in Japan), that would be nice.

Konami is flatout dead to me now. I don't know what else they can do to make amends for the crap they've pulled recently.

Do your research before stating 'facts'.

Sega would be second because Sega never really fell, even there fumbles with Sonic sold, Sonic didn't start becoming a sales irrelevance until releasing a main=line game exclusive to the Wii and going a silly kindergarden TV show route to the story.

Actually, it's the complete opposite: Sonic has been a huge seller in recent years. The entire franchise sales almost doubled from 80 million in 2011 up to 150 million in 2014, in just three years. If anything, Sega's business strategy of marketing Sonic towards primary/elementary kids on mobile devices has been a tremendous commercial success.
