Sequels that look worse than the last game a growing trend?

is it just me or are some sequels worse looking than the game they follow up?

some recent examples:

killzone 2> killzone 3,

crysis > crysis 2,

bioshock > bioshock2.

and from what i see uncharted 3 looks to be worse than 2.

The most recent footage of Uncharted 3 was all MP and i think it looks much better than Uncharted 2's MP. AND Naughty Dog polishes the graphics up later and already stated they will likely see a noticeable improvement.

i think halo reach comes to mind and blackops hd versions ,

the wii version does look like an improvment over mwr but ya the other 2 just either look the same f not worst

But graphically speaking BO>WAW and MW2>MW1

Mass effect 2 > mass effect 1

Bad company 2 > bad company 1

Red dead redemption > red dead revolver

Assassins creed 2 > assassins creed 1

imho i think crysis 2 looks better than crysis 1. also killzone 3 looks better than 2

actually no the assassin creed 1 looked bad even on pc. assassin creed 2 looks way better even on consoles than assassin creed 1. there are faaaaaaaaar to many jaggies in assassin creed 1 even when maxed

Growing trend? It's ALWAYS been that way, in any media, whether games or movies

I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that maybe the games from this gen have reached it's peak. In 2006-2009 almost every game looked graphically stunning. Now that we're 5 years in, I don't think we'll see much jaw dropping graphics. Unless you play on PC of course.

Hmm I remember NFS: Underground 2 IMO looked worse than Underground 1. I Especially Didn't like the Nitrous effect on the taillights.

Same with Tony Hawk's Underground 2 vs THUG, 2 looked more cartoonish to me.

The sequels might have been technically better looking, I can't really remember, but I thought they looked worse.

Dragon Quest 8 looks better than Dragon Quest 9, hurr hurr, derp, derp.

Killzone 3 does not look worse then Killzone 2, and Uncharted 3 looks like it will look better then UC2 so im not really sure what you are talking about.

I agree with the first part of your comment, but I haven't played Brotherhood yet to compare it. AC2 definitely looked a little worse than AC1.

umm fable 3 looks leaps and bounds better than fable 2. What are you talkin about?

I liked Bioshock 2 far more than the original, but thats just me.

Black Ops was a HUGE improvement over MW2. No question.

Only thing that comes to mind is Black Ops. That game looks horrible compared to MW2.
