A guy in Canada got his early and after taking the OS into consideration there is only 364 GB of space. IMO that is not nearly enough, unless you only play the yearly COD & various Sports games (anyone have any idea what Madden's install size is?)

I am not sure the target audience of Dudebros gamers and kids will notice though.

Yummy amount for a digital console. That does suck, but the console is aimed at the more casual gamer, so mileage will vary. Still, it definitely sucks, but cost-cutting literally comes at a price.

Needing to spend $230 to expand the memory pretty much makes the Series S a bad buy. Just get the Series X

yeah it does come at a price and I personally would not buy this console for my use but would for my kids if they wanted a console

I wonder if not needing the 4K assets will make the game files smaller

I really don't see the issue here. If you want a console with more space and performance the Series S is not for you. If you are a casual gamer and only play one or two games a year then the Series S makes sense. We have got to stop pretending that the Series S is marketed towards the hardcore gamer. Its not.

Hard-drive space requirements remains the same whether its Digital or Physical.

@regnaston: why would I have sexual fantasies about a lying conman? It’s been 7 years and still he has not released a single system selling critically acclaimed title outside of a racing game (lol).

This must bother you...

doesn't bother me at all but you seem strangely obsessed with him in a very unhealthy way.. I think this speaks greatly to your Freudian fantasies about Spencer.. You should see counselling for this

It requires "up to" 250 GB, but the vanilla install is 175 GB. That's still pretty massive.

Of course PC is the greatest, but XSX and PS5 are pretty good options for console only gamers. XSS is just shit. Way too many compromises to hit that unrealistic price point.

I wonder if SW has anyone crazy enough to buy the S for themselves. Like, i'd be very interested in having an AMA with that person. A person like that is fascinating. I would take notes and pass them for the generations to come.

That's pretty bad, not gonna lie. 700ish... ok... I see why people are upset but I have about 1.5 TB used as a dumpster for games I barely touch - I'd get by. But 300... That's legit tight

Yup it’s pretty small but I doubt that many of those who will get this will be getting much more then a handful of games per year.

Horrible. A console from a country in which bandwidth limits are commonplace.

Are SSDs even gonna improve performance? If it just improves load times, I'll continue installing almost all my games to mechanical drives. Far more storage for less money.

Truthfully, none of these consoles have enough. Every time someone acts like Sony's is crap or MS isn't big enough I kind of roll my eyes. All of us are going to be buying expandable storage this go around. My PS5 should have enough until prices drop a bit. I'll just switch things out with an external if necessary until I buy one. But we are all literally going to need one as digital continues to grow.

If anyone's even contemplating getting this and a storage upgrade for $200+, don't. Buy an X. Does this have less available storage space than the Xbox One S? I'd be fine with it though and probably wouldn't upgrade my SSD. I'm using a 500gb SSD now and it's fine for what I play.

I expect the average real market price of this thing about $ 250 in 2021 through common sales in the U.S. It's okay.

It's not the OS. I think it's the silly new quick game switch feature that lets you switch games quickly. The space is reserved probably to allow you to switch between six games or whatever.

@Pedro: Casuals or hardcore, that's a pathetic amount of hdd space for a modern console. Same goes for the Ps5 and Series X.

Most of the people buying this will be kids who will just install Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite. So this will be plenty.

To be honest I'm not sure why the self appointed hardcore elite gamer that frequents this site is so bothered about the XSS.

It's not aimed at you!

I am not going to sit here an pretend that the hard-drive space for the Series S and even the PS5 is an issue. Most people don't play as many games as some of the folks that visit these sites play. And if you do, you would already have an existing storage solution for that problem.

An external hard drive will definitely come in handy. At least for Xbox One games and older, people will be able to play off of the hard drive, but of course, have to play Series games off the console itself (or add-on SSD). It might not be the most desirable thing to do, but folks can swap as much as they’d like between system and external hard drive, still keeping the Series S as an affordable next-gen console.

Good job I got that 1TB Expansion card SSD coming and a 2TB HDD then init. Only reason I got an S is I couldn't get an X. I'll swap it when the Series X is more available after launch. Probably next year.
