Series X is practically dead

Look at the restock dates for the system. It is as if MS has given up on making the system. However, Series S can be readily found and it is the system that core gamers have been avoiding.

The PS5 is slightly better but not by much.

We are moving into the second year of these consoles and they are still annoyingly scarce to the point restocking is occurring two week to 6 weeks.

RIP series X.

Whichever system I see first sitting on store shelves between the Xbox Series X and the PS5 disc based system may very well be the first system that I purchase.

The Series S is really the weakest link out of the current-gen consoles, its really hard to not get it unless you are super desperate owning a current-gen if you can't find Series X/PS5.

Even I can say that GPUs are starting to shine but this isn't saying much.

Jesus Christ. I can't imagine the only way a lot of people are going to be able to play Starfield is on a Series S, the Ford Festiva of consoles.

You mean the number of PC gamers are going to be less than the gamers who would have a Series S?🤔

A lot of gamers are console only gamers and this is only way they'll have access to it. The PC market isn't a consumer friendly option right now. Shit, it took me over a year to score a 3080 at MSRP. Consoles are going be the lesser way to play this game, but a Series S just isn't gonna do this game justice, period.

It's definitely frustrating. I am happy that I have a Series S right now.I might trade it eventually for an X though.

There is also the alternative option...just pay the scalpers?? I've checked, and compared to the price gouging on the ps5, Xbox series x prices are much closer to retail value.

I am sure production numbers/shipments for both the XSX and PS5 will improve next month. The Olympics led to some factory shutdown (which I assume affected consoles too) coupled with omicron related shutdowns (and therefore supply chain issues) earlier in the year/late 2021 probably has led to temporary decrease in output.

Just checked ebay and resale prices have certainly tanked for both consoles regardless (probably due to decrease in demand and the glut of consoles accumulated by scalpers leading up to Christmas) so this should also help out regular people too (since scalpers may not be trying to get these as much)

Yeah its the same with everything with a processor :(. Usually Ms would see the unexpected demand and just be able to put in a bigger order for chips/other components and there would be capacity to meet those orders in the market.

But the whole Computer hardware world is a complete crap show. Ms probably had a much smaller order for XSX/XSS parts put in years ago (they werent expecting to do Ps5 numbers on the hardware front) and now they are stuck.

I think it's next year before we start to see new fabs come online so the wait is going to continue on all unfortunately. it sucks on all fronts.

It's called a 'Global Chip Shortage' and it ain't gonna get better soon. Consoles, CPU's and graphics chips are all being mass produced as much as they can, but COVID, component shortages and the global demand is all too much still.

I've got a Series X and I'm still looking into upgrading my PC graphics card. Last year an RTX 3070 (a card I'm looking at) was nearly £1000 in the UK. It's dropped recently to £750.

NFTs and Bitcoin are probably to blame.

Will Phil ever be able to meet demand? He said it will be an issue into 2023 as well 😥

I can only imagine how painful my gaming would be if i didn't have both, the ps5 and a gpu. Imagine being stuck on a launch PS4 to play Elden Ring.

Yeah the UK MS store had the Series X this morning.

The chip shortage is real.

GameStop called me yesterday morning to remind me of my preorder for this Friday (Horizon Forbidden West), the guy also mentioned they would have Xbox Series X consoles available at opening on a first come, first serve basis.

since it is not online (from what I know about it). Cloud gaming for this is a perfect option for XB, XSS, or people with PC's that are old

You 'might' see ES6 on PS5 as ES is an established multiplatform IP but not Starfield or Redfall.

It's been a while since I've seen any stock of the series X it's crazy that there's so little stock can see this shortage lasting longer than I first thought.

Does the processes of 'binning' occur when fabricating these bespoke APU's for the consoles as it does for PC processors and GPU's?

When AMD and Intel make chips from a silicon wafer, not all of the chips work fully, they always have defective ones. This binning doesn't mean the defectives are thrown away though.

For example, if a bunch of Intel i7's were found to have faulty cores they would disable these defective parts, turn down the clocks, disable the HT's and turn the chips into working i5's. More defective processors can be turned into i3's and so on.

Unlike the Series X|S, from a hardware perspective, the PS5 only has one SKU. Surely, this makes it harder to produce its bespoke hardware in large quantities?

With games like CrossfireX it may be for the better.
