Serious Question for Hermits: Ever Wonder Why If PC Gaming is So Vastly Superior

Consoles appeal to a market where the consumer doesn't have the capital or brains to set up a PC suitable enough for gaming. Consoles appeal to people who just plug and play, while PCs are for enthusiasts.WhySoCry

I love PC gaming and I'm going to upgrade for Unreal Tournament...

But I have to admit that gaming on a PC is a selective process. Almost every game has specific system requirements which renders some PCs better than others (unless of course you upgrade in order to play the game you want (if your system doesn't meet those requirements that is) It's more or less like a gamble; some games you can play, some games your system can't handle)...the point is....although PCs are superior to all consoles (depending on the specs), a PC is an extremely multi-purpose machine where as consoles are an alternative and provide guaranteed gaming functionality for a fixed generation. AND THAT is why people choose consoles gaming over PC gaming....well at least that's why I do.

But that doesn't make console gaming trash and people who do it stupid. Many people know how to drive and don't have a damn clue how a car works on the inside. Many people choose to go to a mechanic to fix something because they don't have the time or don't care to do it themselves. That's the society we live in.

 For some people, plug-in-play is better than building from the groundup. Easier for them IS better. I just wish PC gamers would stop being so arrogant and look down on console gamers because they choose not to adopt their ways.

Shonline, if you enjoy how your games look in HD compared to SD, then you know how the PC games could be better.

It took you guys 10 years to get HD on your consoles and thats been a unqiue point of the PC for all that time that most console gamers always ignored about giving the stupid "bu...but teh resolution."  And now that they suddenly have it, they think higher resolution is great.... Hypocrits much? Anyways im getting off on a tangent.

Better graphics (at the very least higher AF, AA, and resolution), the abiltiy to mod, dedicated servers (less lag), generally more online players, more content in the form of expansions, guaranteed backwards compatibility, able to use controllers or KB/M, cheaper games, and free online.

Those are some of the reasons how the PC version of PC-Console multiplats are better.

Like i said in another thread, theres only 3 reasons why someone isnt a PC gamer:

1) Not all the games appeal to them

2) They cant afford it (but if you can get a 360 or a PS3 you can be a PC gamer)

3) They are ignorant.

almost every response that doestn fit into #1 and #2 fall into #3. You can only deal so much with misinformed console gamers till your head explodes.

If I wanted, I could just get a friend to build a gaming computer for me and then I would just pay for the parts.  And I'm sure other people could do that, so please don't make false assumptions like that trying to create tension (of course, that is what semes to always happen in these topics).  

I believe its the games; its always the games.  Why would you choose one system over another?  For the games, and I believe PC gaming is just like that.  

But, PC gaming and console gaming give off different experiences as well.  My PC gaming friend even told me that, they are two different experiences.  Its just something about sitting in front of a TV with a controller compared to sitting in front of a monitor with a keyboard on your lap. 

So some people just have different tastes.  I prefer console gaming, some prefer PC gaming.  Its just how it is.  Why did the PS2 win last gen if the Xbox was vastly superior?  Maybe that's a good analogy...I don't know...

Because it doesnt stop people from making stupid, ignorant remarks about PC gaming, thats why.

Dont wanna play games on a PC? Ok, cool, i respect that. Just dont go around saying its because you cant play it on your HDTV, or you cant use a controller, or you feel that you need a $3000 PC to play it, or that all it gets are RTS games and MMORPG.

I can see how alot of people could think PC gaming as complicated. And you're right, it shouldnt be up to the gamer to be super knowledgeable about PC's inner workings - but the reality is you dont need to know all that to play on a PC either. I doubt the 8 million WoW players are all PC hardware Guru's. No game achieves that success in numbers from hardcore players alone. If they could do it, whats stopping other console gamers from doing it (provided they can afford it, and the PC games interest them).

I just wish console gamers got a clue and realized they are horribly misinformed about PC gaming. 

The PC's demographic isn't as large as the console demographic. That and imo it doesn't really cator to people that still game off of mommy/daddys money and grass cutting. You also need some know how not much but at least a little PC background and a comprehension of reading to fully understand and take in everything there is to do in PC gaming.

The two bolded segments are both things that most PC haters on system wars do not have. I mean $800 graphics cards? $2000-$3000 gaming rigs? Come on lets get serious.

Then why do more people own a 360 then PS3. Why do more people own a Wii then PS3? Why is Wii out selling everything right now?

having a standard that all other users are bound to helps console gaming a lot. Not only is it great for users who dont have to worry about upgrades and other pc annoyances, but its great for devs who dont appreciate other companies getting ahead of the game in terms of tech and putting their games out of date. I would definitely say that some companies prefer developing for consoles.GunSmith1_basic

I disagree with the last statement. they prefer it because there are most ppl willing to buy games on consoles. but in terms of development. pc game development is easy. you don't need devkits or much besides your pc.

This might shock you, but what if I told you that I could put together a pretty good PC gaming rig, I could afford doing such, and  I simply prefer a console to be my primary gaming machine because its EASIER, I don't have to worry about compatibility issues or upgrading my machine and I want something that will be relevant hardware wise for 5 plus years. How do I fit into your little stereotypes now?

IMO mods are great, but I think it would be a sad day when one has to rely on mods to have a great experience with a game. If a game is good and made good by the developer, it can be equally enjoyed in its original state, just like anything else.

Thats entirely dependant on how many PC games you feel you are looking forward to. If you only see 1 or 2 exclusive PC titles a year that you want, and despite your capability of getting a gaming PC and the fact that you like the ease of a console, i dont think its worth it. Theres a handful of titles on the PS3 that look good to me, but i dont think its worth getting a PS3 yet, or even a whole year later so far.

If you are looking forward to a decent amount of the games, then the reasons you mention for not getting a PC are hardly worth the loss of games you arent going to play. Compatibility issues? General compatibility issues do exist, but they are hardly as common as you think. I think you'd be blowing it out of proportion as much as PS3 fanboys blow the 360 overheating issue. You're at least gauranteed any working game you buy will still work 4 or 5 years after. No one can say the same thing about the 360 and its backwards compatibility. 

Upgrades? Listen - any PC you get at the time that you think looks good will continue to look good over time. Upgrading it just means it will look better. That doesnt suddenly make it look bad as though the hardware in it degraded instead of games just ended looking better. I can guarantee you that decent PC hardware bought at the beginning of the Xbox's lifespan can still play Oblivion. I can even show you some screenshots of it running on about 5 year old tech. The idea that you have to upgrade every 6 months, a year, 1.5 years, 2 years, etc are all MYTHS. You upgrade at the rate thats comfortable for you.

IMO mods are great, but I think it would be a sad day when one has to rely on mods to have a great experience with a game. If a game is good and made good by the developer, it can be equally enjoyed in its original state, just like anything else.

Mods are just adding stuff to a great game, so you can play the game in a different way. 

I like PC's a little more simply because the PC gives me more choices as a consumer.  I can make a PC to do exactly what I want it to do at the level of quality I expect.

I feel like I get more game for my dollar on the PC -- user-made mods, custom patches, downloadable content, and multiplayer really stretch a game for all of its value.  I've also noticed that PC games typically lack mass advertisement, marketing, and are usually geared toward a slighter older demographic who demand a little more depth in terms of gameplay and concept.

I like consoles alot, but think consoles could incorporate a lot of the PC's strengths.

The problems with PC's is that they are not user friendly and more expensive than consoles.

lol there's a few of us.

There are certain games I love on the PC that just won't transit over to the 360. Civ, total war, some of the RPG's, football manager etc.

But I love my 360. I have a huge HD tv and playing with friends either online (I'm originally from UK and it means i can play with my old mates who don't have gaming PC's) or in the house with friends/family there. Games like guitar hero, madden, ect just don't translate to anywhere near as much fun on the PC, nor can u realistically easily play mulitplayer. Likewise, I can get games like Oblivion or Gears that I can chill out and play on the couch, rather than being in a seperate room on the PC.

I don't see any reason why 1 is better, they are different and compatible. Certain games I'll always play on the PC and others I'll always prefer on the 360.

And once i can find a Wii I'll be getting one too! Group fun FTW!

I don't even have a gaming rig. I just recognize good games when I see them and the PC has them. I am a multi console owner.

It's the fact that people bash PCs and use namecalling because we know more then they do. Pc gaming is not for kids, more-so with people with time and patience.

On topic, TC, what Hermits call console players noobs? Both are different experiances USUALLY, but this generation the Xbox360 & PS3 are trying to mimic PC's on alot lower budget, and are not only failing but screwing over gamers with overpriced ... well everything, its hard to take this generation fo consoles seriously when you think about it.

Any gamer that uses a PC regually is better off as a PC Gamer imo, you get twice the benefit, (not to mention everything else), that being said, games like Halo 3 / MGS4 / FF13 i will miss because i was a Console player last gen ASWELL.

But I maybe getting a 360 because theyre closely linked. 

I enjoy both very much. There are a lot of great exclusive games on all platforms. Some genres are best on PC and some are best on a console. They all have their strengths.bdever32

There's nothing to wonder about. Consoles are cheaper. Consoles play certain games (racers, sports games, platformers) better than the PC. The PC plays certain games (RTS, MMO, FPS) better than consoles.D_Znuhtz
