mine is close to being 2 years old.....and they are releasing the new 360 with the 65nm chips.....i just take good care of my 360...i rarely leave it on when im not using it

Mine broke once but MS was pretty quick about returning it and it has been running fine since. (Broke after about 4mos, this one has been going strong for about 10 mos)
All of my friends' are always pissed off nowadays because theirs keeps overheating. Honestly, every time they pick up the phone, they sound angry about something. I don't need two guesses to figure out why.
I find it difficult to find too much fault with the 360 being crap when the PS2 was crap also.
I've had my 360 repaired once and it was free, I went through 3 PS2s over six years and had to pay to get it fixed all three times.
I put up with both of them being junk because I want to play the games.

A good point, I went through two PS2s myself. They were horribly unreliable, so I don't know where cows get off criticizing MS so much for the problems they've been suffering.
Never broke, and I've had mine since last christmas. For about 3 months it was vertical, and very well ventilated with the power brick nicely ventilated hanging. But now it's horizontal with pretty much an inch on the right and left side and he top airvents along with the ones at the back. And the power brick is in a small area on carpet lol. Never had any disk scratching with it either. Or anything like that.

PS2s were not generally unreliable. Whatever failure rate PS2 had was nowhere near 360's 43% failure rate.

BTW: Resorting to last gen excuses to justify curent gen failures is dumb.
Mine has broken twice. They generally send it back to me pretty quickly, though. I sent mine in on November 2, and it's scheduled for delivery this Wednesday.

My near-launch 360 (I bought it the 1st week of Decemnber 05) has RRoD'ed twice on me. Once I had a power outage while I was playing and once my buddy unplugged it thinking the power cord was connected to stereo.

And it's great that you were able to fix your 360's problem. It's just not so great for the 30% ratio who had their system's fried and their disks scratched to hell.

And I was making a joke. The 360 gives the RRoD warning whenever it suddenly loses power, so something a simple as unplugging a 360 while it is running will give you the RRoD. Mine has run like a dream since day 1.
Since Microsoft refuses to release the numbers themselves (something Nintendo and Sony have had no problem doing), the retailers themselves had to keep score of how many times the 360s were brought back.
Like I said: It's a good thing that your system has lasted. Other peoples' consoles haven't been so lucky though.
I had owned mine for under a month aprox 15 days and it broke, so Im really mad, however the games are fantastic and if you can wait the 2-5 weeks it takes for you to get your box and your system fixed then by all means go for it, but if your only thinking about getting a next gen system now I would get a ps3 just for its 08 lineup of exclusives it depends on your taste though

oh and something terrible happened, when it broke I phoned and told them to send mea box so they did, and I waited 2 and half weeks for the box before calling and asking them wtf was going on, and guess what!, my box order had been cancelled by the system so now im waiting and im very hopefull that my box will arrive within the week GAH!
Gamestop sells insurance for them now, It's about 100 dollars, and if yours breaks within a year, you can bring it to the store and trade it for a refurbished one. Pretty pathetic. Just make sure you get a new model even if you have to wait.

65nm cpu but still 90nm gpu, thats still well out of date, the cpu should have been 65nm a year ago and the gpu should be 65nm by now

You're right, they did report the same thing. The exact same thing. They took the original story and ran with it. I've checked for a comprehensive review of the 360's failure rate, all that comes up is more or less the same article you posted (they refer to a former EB manager/employee) or a link to an informal survey (ie a poll) that 360fanboy.com ran. Like I said before I'm not saying the 360 doesn't have a hardware issue, merely people shouldn't throw around anecdotal evidence (something your PCGamer link notes in the first paragraph) like its fact.

Im fed up with mine breaking....oh wait, its a launch 360 that will be 2 years old next month and has never broken. Sorry about that, jumped on the 33% fail rate bandwagon like the rest of the Sony fanboys... :shock:
I got the RRoD for the second time in just over a year last week. It's becoming quite an annoyance. I have a friend who's 360 got the RRoD on the day he purchased it - which was hilarious. About 1 month ago his power brick died too. The most shoddy hardware for quite some years IMO. It shouldn't be happening this gen. It's a shame :(
