What are the benefits of spending $500 on a PS3 when i have a 360?

I am considering purchasing a PS3, but i dont want to if there will not be compelling exclusive games.

Note: I am aware of MGS 4 and I was not a fan of the first 3 so i am not sure that would be compelling.

Do some research and see if it's what you want. Both the 360 and the Ps3 have good exclusives coming up so....it's all on your preference man.

PS3 = Native 1080p support with HDMI 1.3

X360 = 1080p support with HDMI 1.2

PS3 = Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD-MA, Multichannel LPCM support (Lossless Audio Support)

X360 = Dolby Digital, DTS, (Lossy Audio only)

PS3 = $400 BD Player

XBox 360 = $400 Upscaling DVD player (which upscales poorly)

Games. ^^

But 99% of the time, if you have an Xbox 360/PS3 getting the other isn't as great.

other than mgs4 there is: Uncharted, mlb 08, warhawk, and heavenly sword which all are very good games, some of the funnest around.

controllers that dont have to have battery replaced

less chance of hardware failure

free online play

seems that the future line-up of ps3 games is better than 360's

sony has gone with an open format with the ps3 meaning we can use mods like on Unreal 3 and things like that.

internet browser

the list goes on, i bought my ps3 for 600 when it first came out and havent regretted it yet!

All the PS3's features just add flavour to the system; games are the essential part of the platform. So see if there are any games you're interested in...I can't be of much help there, the only PS3 exclusive that I'd want is FFXIII.

Research is key to anything, especially when it comes to makeing investments. You will be investing $500 into a gaming console and you already have a 360. YOu are in a win-win situation if you have the money to spend, therefore you can have the best of both worlds.

360 uses compression that is lossless for audio - do your research. if anything if we're judging this based on a per title basis the PS3 has far more games with lossy audio compression ;)

Uh, no it doesn't. The only lossless compression codecs are Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. The Xbox 360 doesn't have the hardware to use either.

The Xbox 360 isn't capable of lossless audio.

What if it compressed its compressed plain and simple different codecs carry it differently (WMA Lossless,FLAC,WAV(losless), WAV, DTS-HD, Dobly Tru-HD)

i dont care if they use a friggen 320kbps MP3 Audio,Or WMA Pro 192 kbit its still compressed in a way

Oh, a little piece of advice: If you're going to get a PS3, consider buying one used. If you're lucky, you might get a good deal on a 60GB model (which has better backwards compatibility than either of the current models).

See this is what I am thinking, there really is no point of owning a PS3 right now. All of the promising exclusives look like they are coming out in the future. I like the 360 now, but as we head into 2009, the PS3 looks like it will get more games I want. I guess I'll just hold off on buying one immidiately and we'll see what the future brings.

Thats not true. If you have any console it does not mean its pointless to get the other. Having a ps3 and 360 is great, you get all the exclusives. and this year there are loads for the ps3 so its a good time to have one.

Well, of course it's all about games so I'm just going to give you 2 lists.

Currently out exclusives:

Warhawk

Ratchet and Clank

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Resistance

Upcoming Exclusives:

White Knights Story

Final Fantasy 13

God of War 3

Little Big Planet

Socom

I haven't listed everything here. Just what I tend to care about. You might want to look in the PS3 section of Gamespot for a more complete list of what's out and what's coming.

Do you seriously use wifi? I mean cmon... seriously? The Wi-fi built into the PS3 runs WAY too slow, I would rather have a wired connection that has better connectivity and speed rather than Wi-fi...

Why would you sell your xbox360? Why not just wait a few more weeks (months?) save up a little more cash and buy a PS3 and have both? YOu really are shooting yourself in the foot when you trade in consoles, you get maybe 1/4th of the price that you paid for the console.

It's a good paper weight. Unless you care about mgs you shouldn't bother, every "good" game on the console lacks multiplayer/single player, lacks replay and is less than 10 hours in length. It's like a rental console lol

Just buy a wii to compliment your 360, all the best high def games and all the best nintendo franchises.

MGS4, by the way, has the best sound effects in any game I've played.

XBox 360 = $400 Upscaling DVD player (which upscales poorly)

MrBluRay01

I think it upscales damn fine.

Maybe it helps that I got one of the coolest CRT HDTVs out, but damn the image is crisp clear.

Almost looks as good as the 1080p footage on my computer.

[QUOTE="metalisticpain"]Bluray movies do look sweet, you have to admit that, though u have to have a full 1080 TVBigboi500
So 720p doesn't look good with Bluray movies?

720p looks just fine.

But if you have a tv that is 1080p, bliss.

This is why I don't go to movie theaters anymore, no point.

Ok thanks, he made it sound like Bluray on anything less than 1080p = dvd quality, which made me think "why get a hdtv at all?"

If Folding@Home ever makes any significant discoveries in curing/preventing cancer and your PS3 helped the process then you might be above of everyone who didn't if you ever need treatment, which I hope none of you ever require.
