Seriously, Is MGS4 An Ad For Smoking?

I just beat the game for the third time and I suddenly feel the need for a cigarette. At every intall screen snake is smoking. I'm starting to think those intall screens were put in there for the sole purpose of a smoke break. Not to mention throughout the game snake is constantly feinding for a cigarette. Kojima and co. must be heavy smokers or something.

Has anyone here become a smoker after playing mgs4?

If it was an AD for smoking then his cigs would have a brand name on it. So no, it isin't.ChrnoTrigger

Why are you watching the install screens? I mean after you beat the game once, all the data it needs to install is there and you no longer have to watch them, so... why would it be there for your third time playing?

Also Cigs help reduce stress... :) (Note: I don't smoke, I'm just saying in the game it does :P )

Actually the installs take place after each chapter no matter how many times you play. The previous install is always overwritten by the new one.

i thought it was hilarious the first time little grey motioned snake for a cigarette, but while we are at it, would it be an ad for alcohol since drebin had a stryker (is that the name of the APC?) full of wine at the wedding

On the item screen next to cigarettes it says 'highly addictive and hazardous to your health' and in the install screens it has warnings about smoking. So no, it doesn't advertise it. Not at all.ash10692

The game is Japanese in origin and the Japanese view smoking in a totally different way then Americans.

Also, as a smoker, I like that there are still games/media that will have a character smoke not because he's evil or overlly "cool" but just because he's a smoker.
