and even though they are comfortably in the lead this gen imagine if they had current graphics to match the ps3 and the 360 Wolfang07They would have been in a totally different position because competing with the other consoles and PC wasn't their plan this gen.
Next gen the wiiWii should at least have current gens graphics and because I cant see the leap in graphics being that big next gen it will probably keep keep its first place position Wolfang07
I don't know how many gens I will read that sentence, but there it is again.
Also, just because Nintendo is cheap next gen, doesn't mean the other guys aren't going that route.
Price, and being late is what cost Sony so much marketshare, especially price, and that won't be an issue next gen if Sony learned their lesson (Heck, Ken is gone, and he is the one that made the PS3 so expensive.)

you have to win the US to be #1 I dont think they can get pass MS on its home turfI'm not too keen on a leap in horsepower. I'm not impressed with what it has brought us. I want to see developers wisen up first, before we go any further.
We're talking about the N64?!?!? Aren't we like almost 10 years too late to be discussing this? But yeah, that's the reason they fell of during the N64 days.
The gamecube fell off because that was the gen where it became cool to hate Nintendo despite the quality of games that they make.
When the typical gamer abandoned them, Nintendo decided to focus on it's core gamers (people who like Nintendo franchises) and the untapped market. Core Nintendo gamers are probably responsible for the same amount of Wii sales that the Gamecube sold, but going for the untapped market was the key to their success.
Next gen, I think things will be the same. It will take more to tap the new market than just motion controls. Nintendo as a company kinda embodies the principals of the Wii. I can totally see MS and Sony making a Wii mote with like 10 buttons, and analog stick and some crap that just insanely complicated... which misses the entire point of the Wii mote and will likely blow up in their face.
As far as hardware power, I think the Wii 2 will probably be a system thats makes money per system sold from day one. It could use current gen tech (which should be dirt cheap by the time it comes out) but with double the RAM and that'd be good enough imo. I always hear console developers say that it's ram that really restricts them and not so much processing power. In 2011 or 2012 you could probably purchase two 360 graphics processors for like $120 max. Slap that in a Wii with 2-3gb of RAM and you're good to go.
Nintendo really did screw up sticking with cartridges for the 64. It seems strange that they go from discussing a cd add-on for snes to releasing a new console that sticks with cartridges, they pretty much handed Sony the win that gen.
I'd say if Nintendo went cd earlier, the playstation wouldve failed and SEGA would still be making consoles today.
