"It's a strange controller if you're used to the offerings on consoles. There are two touch pads, one on either side, that double as buttons. There are triggers, two bumpers, and two more buttons on the rear of the system on either side. That means that, ignoring the four face buttons, two touch pads and analog stick, there are six buttons on the rear of the controller."
Analog stick???? Yes Analog Stick, not analog sticks. This controller has one analog stick......
I mean valve, do you even want a chance in the living room competition with the consoles.
Oh i did. I read the article did you. You know there is no way in hell that touchpad will simulate a mouse correctly. When has a laptop mouse pad ever been as good as an actual mouse. The answer is never.

Of course it's not going to simulate a mouse perfectly, however this has been engineered specifically for gaming and I'm sure it will work great, this isn't a damn laptop...
@blackman88: Its still more accurate than an analog stick, we just loose the tactile feedback for accuracy. I'm pretty sure its a different type of touchpad than a laptop and more accurate anway.
Best controller for PC is a mouse and a keyboard if you know to use the most optimal control scheme available. Fighting stick for fighters, wheel for driving games. Anyone remember Gravis for PC?
I prefer mouse & keyboard. Street Fighter works amazing on keyboard
No it doesn't work amazingly well. You'll get bodied pretty hard by any player on your level whose on a pad or a fighting stick. Fighting games are made with the ergonomics of a stick, and to a lesser extent gamepads (in particular the fightpad ones). Advanced techniques are executed consistently on those inputs than with a keyboard.
Just because you can do some of Zangief's moves on a keyboard doesn't mean anything. Also, playing against the CPU doesn't count.
if people want analogs sticks for a casual sit bakc experience they can buy an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller, I'd choose an Xbox 360 controller because those things are tough as nails and the Xbox One controller is expensive, overprice, cheaply built Chinese piece of shit
I will reserve judgement before I've tried it. Although, I don't have much interest in gaming with a controller with touch screens instead of analog sticks. And I already have 360 controllers for my PC, which does what I want. The d-pad really sucks on those, but I don't care enough to get a new controller just because of that.
So right now, Valve's controller looks weird and is unnecessary.

Huh? The 360 controller deteriorates so much faster than the Xbox One controller. I've used my Xbox One controller for around 800h and the analogs are no different from when I first used them. The 360 ones would just flatten out and fall apart in no time at all.

That's the only thing people seem to focus on. So what if it looks weird ? The touch pads are more precise than any analogue-stick ever made and allows people to play strategy games from their couch.

So no, it's not unnecessary.
I already have 360 controllers and don't want to play strategy games from my couch. So yes, for me it's unnecessary. By "looking weird" I meant it having touch pads instead of analog sticks. But the GameCube controller looked weird, and I think that's the best controller ever made. Like I said, I will reserve judgement before trying it.
Anyway, you have tried the controller I see. I had no idea the touch pads were more precise than analog sticks..

It's very precise. The surface is soft and responsive. You do need to calibrate sensitivity first however.

only person I've known to get flat sticks are people who buy used controller from GameStop and well there's a reason someone with broken thumb sticks would sell them to GameStop is GameStop would take them and sell them to others trying to save a few dollars, that and every store demo from Walmart to Target had broken thumbsticks because nobody respects what isn't theirs
and I made a thread about this, the Xbox One uses similar analog mechanism of as that of Xbox 360, except the Xbox 360 controller is made sturdier and uses metal parts and the Xbox One controller went cheap on the design and uses plastic pieces that break very easily
Vavle gets thumbs up from me simply for the fact that they try to change up the standard controller layout, which is lacking yet refuses to improve.
Well, hardware developers refuse to improve it. But Valve doesn't.
Extra buttons under pinky/ring fingers are a definite step forward. The jury is out on the rest of it.

Guess you didn't read the article after all.
It's not a laptop touchpad.
And it's not supposed to beat the mouse. It's supposed to be the next best thing for situations where it'd be cumbersome to use a mouse.

Are you seriously saying that controlling your directions with one thumb (gamepad) is better than with 4 fingers?
Get the **** out.
A stick? Maybe, but it's down to preference.
Some people prefer hitboxes. And those are basically keyboards with lesser, bigger buttons.
