I might end up buying one if I can't get Sony to fix my old one, which broke recently. Seriously, their customer support is terrible.

From time to time I play my PS2. I don't have a BC PS3 so my PS2 is my only option to play KH2FM. It was a pretty smart move to take out BC on PS3's. Just to show that a console 11 years ago can still sell well. The PS2 will never die :P

I could be wrong,but I think a lot of those are sold in the developing and emerging economies in Latin America wherethe PS brand is just starting to gain a foothold andbrand new electronic devices i.e the PS3, are financially beyond the average citizen

I just bought the onimusha collector's edition new yesterday. And until dmc 1 & 3 come to the ps3 or something, my ps2 will still get alot of time.

Personally, I cant see how a kid who is just getting into gaming wouldn't get a PS2. I still haven't played all the PS2 games I wanted to.

1) console is dirt cheep

2) games (used and new) are dirt cheep

3) quality and quantity of games are outstanding

4) they still make games for it :shock:

5) If you gonna buy a DVD player.... why not a PS2?

6) kids break things.. don't get them a $300-$400 system.. get em a Wii or PS2 (see 5)

I bet anyone here could toss out everything they have gaming-wise and buy a PS2 and a stack of games for under $200 and be set for a year.

Mostly mexicans for fifa. Every mexican i know and thats roughly 125 i personally consider friends all have new ps2s with fifa.

It's also the best console to have ever existed. It also has a plethora of fantastic games.

This gen is mostly my chance to catch up on games I missed last gen.

I know a lot of people that purchase the system after the successor releases so they can get the system and games cheap.

Then use a SD tv, I don't see a problem with how PS2 games looks on HDTVs. And besides, SD tvs have less input lag than HDTVS, so you win twice there.

I didn't have one myself, my bro did. seriously though PS2 was a great console, lots of top games, very popular. I can imagine it selling well in developing countries. But I see little reason to get it in NA, EU or JP. Standard Def PS2 games look fugly on big screen tvs.

In terms of Quantity - I'm sure the PS2 wins. In terms of Quality of games- that's debatable. you can't judge a game released in 2001 based on 2011 standards. standards in tech and gameplay change. the PS2 is the top selling console of all time right now, that is until the DS overtakes Then that will have the claim on being the greatest console. Either way I'm not dissing the PS2. I'm just saying that it's a very old console. Graphically it's very dated. And a lot of the games I'm afraid haven't aged that well, not if you are used to the current gen consoles. IF you haven't seen a current gen game then I can understand the attraction of PS2. Also one thing that has certainly taken off over the last few years is online gaming, and you can't argue that the PS2 has aged well there.CwlHeddwyn

I'm a PC gamer, i mod games to squezee photo realistic visuals that - if you're not into modding games - you can't imagine.

The PS2 system has aged extremely well, including most of its praised games, but that's also bound to subjectivity. What has aged well to me, may have aged bad to you. The PS2 games look just fine to me on my SDTV. I don't need to buy a HDTV because i have a 24" monitor that i purchased three month ago after saving money.

Its not a old console, at all, the tech itself is the only ancient thing about it. Persona 4 released in 2008, and its one of the best games on the system. Atari 2600 is what could be defined as a old console and very dated, mostly unplayable.

From the SNES onwards, the systems are more than playable, and guess what, i've bought them all from 2007 onwards, and i love them.

I don't know. The Playstation 2 is the one greatest systems of all time. That's probably why it hasn't died quite yet. Kinda like how the NES didn't die immeditely into the next gen.

I have owned 4 PS2's due to dropping and breaking a few. I neve have owned the PS2 Slim but will once Sony announces they will discontinue it. To many games on that system not to keep one in storage to play when I want.

Id rather buy a PS2 than 360 or PS3. Also a lot of people may not be willing to spend so much on a console, not everybody can afford some luxuries unfortunately.

There's no stopping the PS2... even TC will get one eventually.

It is never too late to buy a PS2. PS2 is DAT console. It was better than the Gamecube and Xbox combined.

PS3 will never live up to the epicness that was PS2.

I live in the 2nd most populous country in the world, and even the middle class here views buying a console as somwehat of an entertainng expensive thing, i.e. a non-essential even for entertainment and only for those who can throw their money around.

Ima have to get one since my current slim has stopped reading discs. but I have a launch 60 gig ps3 so i'm not too worried about ps2 playback I mostly use the ps2 when I want to use a gameshark for ps1 and ps2 games.

*remember folks ps2's are perfect they never break down...but when they did sony fixed any issues within a revision...lol love that logic, and their customer support is amazing...like instant transmisition fixing of ps2's.*

ive bought 6 ps2's. i bought one at launch which i gave to my brother. bought another for me. then it crapped on me at some point. bought my third worked fine. bought a fourth just to have 2nd in the house since it was me and 2 other brothers (my oldest brother lives with his wife and kids hes the one i gave a launch ps2). eventually my mom was going to central america to visit family and when she does that we like to give our less fortunate cousins/nephews/nieces things they cant acquire easily over there so we gave them both our ps2's, a crap load of ps2 games, a gamecube with lots of games as well, and all sorts of other things. very good games like shadow of teh collusus, mgs 1,2 and 3, devil may cry 1, resident evil 4 etc. anyway we easily rebought all that stuff and another ps2 which was our 5th. eventually we stopped playing it due to new consoles and we're all huge pc gamers. we have no idea what happened to our 5th ps2 so this last christmas we bought our 6th ps2 which is sometimes underneath a heap of clothes since my brother likes to use it alot.

There's no stopping the PS2... even TC will get one eventually.
