Ok look I've been reading some post, and there are a lot of weird lies and excuses going around so I'm going to organize this post.

The Elite Xbox is 480$ (includes 120GB, HDMI)

The Lower model PS3 is $500 (includes 20gb, HDMI)

The High End model Ps3 is $600 (includes 60gb, HDMI)

Now let me set one thing straight about the GB. You will end up hurting yourself if you really believe that 120GB is worth around 180$. The 1-up podcast talks about this very issue, of gouging the customer.

This is essentially ripping off the customer. It has no Wi-fi or high definition player within the elite model.

1. Wi-fi is essential for bigger houses, so as to not have to deal with setting up the ethernet cable in another room. An inconveniece

2. The HD-DVD player is 200$ for the Xbox360, and without HDMI, your picture will be put down to 480p.

Now here comes the hard part for people to understand. You WILL need to get the Elite version or your picture will be downgraded to 480p. This is because the other models way of handling the HD WILL BE LOCKED OUT. You WILL NOT get the better picture once this standard regulation goes into practice. This is essentially why MS released this new model, but decided to gouge (it's true, it's a pure rip-off to the early adopters) That is UNLESS MS has a plan with High Def movies onto your Hard Drive to keep the picture. But essentially all those HD-DVD player adopters are screwed unless they have the elite model.

so basically the elite is for the HD-DVD adopters. cause im set i didnt care for HDDVD cause its pretty much the beta at this point. Bluray owns it ill give that to the PS3.

Please elaborate on your "downgrade to 480p" rationale, because it makes no sense.

Because the movie studios will ONLY back HDMI soon. This means that any picture higher than 480p on your Xbox 360 without HDMI WILL BE LOCKED AND DOWNGRADED to 480p. This is why MS made this model. But they seem to decide to make the price higher by adding a 120GB HD, which is a lot... I have no idea why.

That right there is a conspiracy theory with no basis in actual fact. Not a good argument. And the hard drive is primarily for the new IPTV feature coming out.

I think thedarkomen is correct. Although VGA can display that resolution, VGA is not secure like HDMI (specifications). Any protected HD content will be downgraded if it goes for any non compliant source (i.e. non HDMI). The same is being said about Vista.

Games will still be in 1080p, and that's what matters the most.

Cute. You know that claiming denial without actually providing a counter argument is denial in and of itself.

because it has no copy protection, the moive companies don't care about the customer but their $$$$$$$$$ and vga was outdated the day dvi became mainstream which was years ago

Putting wi-fi in the elite would be a big mistake.

Wi-Fi should only ever be an option.

  1. Some houses have wired networks built in.
  2. Wi-fi has dead spots.
  3. Wi-fi can have interference.
  4. Some people have there console next to the router so it is much cheaper just to plug it in with a cable.
  5. Wired networks are faster in most cases.

Only a arrogant console manufacturer would burden the customer with paying for something that is not wanted.

Same goes for blu-ray.

Also the 20gb version of the PS3 is not availble in Europe and other regions so you can not compare it in all cases. You can only buy the $800 60gb version with emotion engine chips removed.
