Shadowman was a metroidvania action/horror game with shit controls and incredibly bullet-spongy enemies where you played "some guy" who basically goes to hell stop "Satan-man" with a constantly had a bleeding nose, along with his serial killer horseman, including Jack The Ripper, from ending the world and stuff. For it's many faults it was atmospheric and creepy.

Originally released on PS1, Dreamcast, PC and N64, it is a getting a remaster from Nightdive Studios.

Note - That is original version Steam release trailer

Nightdive Studios, in partnership with Valiant Entertainment, has announced Shadow Man: Remastered for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (Steam, GOG).

“Our goal with the remaster is to give today’s generation of gamers all the features that they expect from a modern title while preserving the qualities that made Valiant’s iconic character and the original Shadow Man game such memorable classics to begin with,” said Nightdive Studios CEO Stepehn Kick in a press release.

Valiant Entertainment chairman and CEO Dan Mintz added, “As part of our continued growth into the video game industry, we’re happy to bring Valiant fans this immensely popular Shadow Man character as the next title we release. Using this platform allows the Valiant fans to experience and explore the universe creatively.”

Here is an overview of the remaster, via Nightdive Studios:

Shadow Man is the brave and powerful supernatural hero who protects humanity from the sinister demons that lurk in the Deadside and spill into our world. The Shadow Man video game was originally developed by Acclaim Studios and published for the PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Dreamcast console in 1999. Considered a “lost classic” for years, the PC version of the game was published again in its original form by Nightdive Studios in 2014.

Now the title is being updated using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX engine which has been used to restore classic video games across all digital platforms including System Shock: Enhanced Edition, Turok, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Blood: Fresh Supply, and Forsaken Remastered.

The Remastered version adds a host of features in addition to console support:

  • 4K widescreen display
  • Dynamic shadow mapping
  • Dynamic per-pixel lighting
  • Antialiasing, and other post-process effects
  • Higher density of particle effects
  • Refined art, audio, and assets

  • Reintroduction of missing content cut from the original game
  • Xbox, PlayStation 4, Controller Pro support

It was a very "mature" game when it released on the Dream Machine, but mature doesn't make it fun.

Nobody asked for this.

Sounds great, def buying it.

I played Shadowman on N64 back in the good old days, clearly a hidden gem of the time and love the game when I was young. With Bloodshot movie spicing things up, I can see Valiant wants to make Shadowman relevant again.

@uninspiredcup: Do keep in mind what passed for mature back in the year 2000(?). A couple four letter words and a bare pair of pyramid shaped boobs is what I vaguely remember.

It's a strange game to revive, but the main protagonist was a black dude which was fairly novel back then, and helped it to stand out.

Been a while, but I would say the mature aspects was the use of real (and real inspired) serial killers with mentions of their actual victims, with a fairly bleak dystopian plot, including the looming threat child danger.

As far as bad words and gore go, compared to something like Mortal Kombat or GTA, wasn't really that bad. The dialogue was mostly cheesy and straight up bad.

What made it creepy was largely the sound-design and art-design.

Bit more forgiving than other gamers, can generally overlook quite a lot of bad shit for specific stuff it excels it. Not going to be a dumbass and pretend it was some sort of masterpiece.

Night Dive sure is making a lot more game announcements than Platinum is.

Like weren't they supposed to make 4 game announcements?

They just announced The Wonderful 101 remake, and then called it quits.

@uninspiredcup: Man, the memories came flooding back watching those trailers. I'll hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Night Dive are usually good, they don't half-arse shit. But def be disappointing if they don't fix the spongy as **** enemies and awkward controls.

They fixed the controls on System Shock and it was drastically improved.
