Shadow of The Beast review 5/10

So the GS review is up and it seems that the game is "mediocre" at best.

I'm still curious as I never played the original. What are your thoughts on this?

I vaguely remember playing the first. It is too bad the remake is terrible.

It scored better than I thought. I had predicted a 4/10. The game looked shit from the moment I saw it.

Game always looked janky when they initially showed it, though I did feel that the more recent round of footage that was coming out for the game looked tighter as a whole. But I guess that was the benefit of a vertical slice and anti-hype at work. Most of the impressions on gaf were shit, which is a shame, because I don't think the new turtles game is going to be all that legit, since it's Platinum Games on a fucking budget, and basically their d-team. Meaning I'm stuck waiting until the fall and Nier 2 for my next proper beat-em up fix.

I really didn't expect much from this game. It looked very repetitive in the game play. Graphics were well done, but everything else seemed pretty mediocre. Just another exclusive flop for the PS4. Every exclusive can't be like UC4. unfortunately.

From what I've been reading it's just as uninspired as the original which was also nothing special.

@dynamitecop: Yeah the original was just a showcase for graphics when it came out (12 layers of parallax scrolling) and this looks to be in the same vein, all visuals not much gameplay.

Only the oldest gamers will have it first released way back in 1992, i remember paying it on the Commodore Amiga, it's actually considered a classic but i actually thought that it's gameplay was far too dated to remake it today.

it's one of those games that you shouldn't remake, it should have just remained a classic, Bit like bionic commando

sure, because the game was used to hype against NOTHING! And there are 0 posts saying how great it was going to be compared to anything.

If your response is to say say that the same is true for Stellaris, the UC4 hype thread says different. And a few others that I made talking about non-indie games this gen says different.

Don't worry NoobFigher I'll make hype threads for Nioh and or KOF XIV two games I'm hyped for. If sony fans have hype for something I'm sure they'll make hype threads for them. I guess you guys just hype shit to downplay other games and then let it sink into oblivion if it isn't crowned as the second coming after it releases.

To be honest, while I have fond memories of the original Amiga games, they weren't strictly speaking the most impressive games from a gameplay perspective. They were more impressive from a graphics and sound perspective, in an era where both of these were pretty limited outside of the Amiga.

Still, I had high hopes for this one. I'll reserve judgement until I play it but maybe I'll wait for a cheap Steam copy.

You know the thing all PS4 bashing fanbys claim the system is worthless for having up until now....they suddenly matter to these guys since this one scored low now! lol amazing isn't it?

Sure - i bet if this game got an 7 or higher you would have been praising it, since we all know you only play review scores, you clown.

The game always looked too simplistic for me. No depth to the combat and the level design(atleast what they've shown so far) looked really boring. Compare the 2d level design to something like Ori and the blind forest, and its like night and day qualitywise at first sight

@casharmy: it's published by Sony, so no it's not an independent game, nor is indie a genre.

If this had gotten a 7 or higher, I would have said I'll look into it more. Wouldn't have changed the fact that I have been spectacularly uninterested in this game since its announcement.

I mean on the whole, I don't think there is anything wrong with getting more games at all- I just don't think Sony would want a game they published on PC (although it would not be unprecedented either).

Just one point lower than Quantum Break.

That´s a damn shame,I loved SotB on the Amiga and this was the game I was the most interested on the PS4,still want to give it a go eventually.
It would be great if it had a PC release but that seems unlikely.

Was expecting better from this. Might still check it out some day.

It never looked good, but the only one that seemed super into it here was the furthest thing from a PS fan.

He'll be "Salty" about it. He will probably create a dupe thread within a day.

Definitely had higher expectations for this, but oh well. Kind of a waste to resurrect an old IP if you're not going to make it great.
