Shadow of the colossus was a game way ahead of it's time, even with such a limited hardware

-Giant boss battles that will go on to influence many of the gigantic boss battles you see this gen

-custom motion blur; since ps2 lacked

-custom physics, grab & swing all animated by hand?

-custom HDR; since ps2 lacked

-volumetric smoke?

-vast open world game with zero loading times

-one of the few ps2 title at the time to support widescreen, progressive scan

^ this Game influenced all giant bosses belowand more.....

That explains why it ran like crap. And a lot of that is not ahead of it's time.

I highly doubt that SotC inspired the "big boss battle" theme of those games.

That thing is a pain in the you know what. I still haven't beat the large one yet.

But I don't see how its ahead of its time, but I do see how it influenced future games.

SOTC is a great game but in no way inspired the big boss battle. Clearly been big bosses in games before it.

Many shoot-em up/beat-em up had huge boss in the games, so no.

The first game I remember playing with a giant boss, was Twinmold in majoras mask, so no shadow of the colossus did not inspire giant boss battles.

I don't even know what his angle is. I'd say the only game it influenced(maybe) in his list is God of War 3.

I'm sure Shadow of the Colossus didn't inspire huge boss battles as you could go back all the way to MegaMan 2 and still find a huge boss. From what I can tell (and this is just me going through games off the top of my head, so I'm probably wrong) though, Shadow and the Colossus might have been the first one to have nothing but the huge bosses.

It's my favorite game, but it didn't inspire giant bosses. Games have just always had big bosses. Some of the bosses in earlier Legend of Zelda titles were quite huge.

That said, I think all your other points are extremely valid and I don't know why people say the game ran like crap. I never had any trouble playing it.

I personally think everyone else is infuriated and jealous because their game doesn't have the ability to aim down the sights imo.

Not to mention the fact that they have to climb all over the colossi to kill it while Call of Duty can just dual-wield Ultra Mega Rapid Firing Death Machine 9000 TM shotguns and point at anything they want dead.

True that, though I prefer the helicopter killstreak reward, just pwn 11 fools and you get a heli to smash all those noobs on the map.

It's not funny anymore, you can stop now. Actually, by saying it's not funny anymore, I'm implying that it was funny at some point. It wasn't.

Haha. So true. There was no need to render an entire island at once. Especially when you consider the fact that you didn't even play on like 80% of the damn thing.

Actually, you couldn't play on 20% of most of the maps.
