Currently playing Shadow of War and I am not liking the game. It’s very grindy, the controls are inadequate because of the contextual nature of the button configuration, there is a lot of just stuff to do that amounts busy work, the combat is not robust enough for the situations you are put in and it’s mainly due to the numerous things assigned to one button and there is a lack as accomplishment due to the backlog of just stuff to do. The game looks and performs well. They have improved some elements from the original but it felt more like a downgrade in the overall experience. Also the captain orc dialogue remains unskippable and you encounter so many of them that it gets exhausting after the hundredth overly lengthy intros.

I disagree about the controls. They feel mostly solid. However, the orc talking thing you are spot on about; it's annoying as hell most of the time.

This is one thing I am getting tired of in open world games is go collect this and that to make your character better. Shadow of War has been super grindy to me so far and I actually gave up on it and said I will go back later which I probably won't.
@Litchie: You can buy items directly. It does have microtransactions but no loot boxes. You can buy legendary weapons which is complete bullshit and cosmetics. I mean it's still bad let's not dance around it. But it's a better game than Shadows, which isn't saying much.
I didn't played Shadow of War yet. I'm already 42 hours into AC Orgins and highly enjoy it. The battle system is great. The best battle system I played in AC game. The story is okay, Bayek is decent character (better than most of AC protagonists). The open world is great, but don't play it thinking as AC game. It feels closer to Witcher 3 than AC2 for example. For me it doesn't matter because I enjoyed Witcher 3 and AC4 more than "the classic style of AC".
The only gripe I have with Orgins is the tomb, which are lame. Even AC2 and Brotherhood had much better tombs than Orgins, which is a shame.
For the first time I feel tempted to get ass creed. Is it better than the previous games?
I'm not normally an Assassins Creed guy (last one I played is Black Flag), but I also felt oddly compelled to pick up Origins and I've been having a good time with it. Its not blowing my mind, but I don't have any major issues with it either. It seems enjoyable and offers great escapism. Combat has been much improved since the last time I played the series.
Does Ancient(ish) Egypt appeal to you as a setting? If so, I'd say go for it.
@R4gn4r0k: i actually liked Shadow of Mordor very much. Unity was visually the most impressive but not very interesting gameplay and story wise. Syndicate was a way better than Unity. But Shadow of Mordor was better imo than those two.
Still i have my doubts as I read that Shadow of War is too much grindier now.
I am actually more inclined now in getting Injustice 2.

Yeah I also like Shadow of Mordor's very unique take on what is otherwise Assassin's Creed gameplay.
The orcs are what sell the game.
I can tell you that, aside from the lootboxes, Shadow of War is an improvement over the first game in every single way. off the top of my head:
- Locations are way more varried
- Nemesis system is deeper and much more improved
- Fighting and movement is deeper and much improved
- You can tweak and customize your character now, new atire, new weapons, a WHOLE lot of customization.
I don't want to give away too much, but the Orcs are again what steal the show. The amount of character and personality each of them got is truly something you gotta experience :)
@R4gn4r0k: yeah i will probably give it a try to Shadow of War. I tried Origin at my cousin's, and it didn't convince me. The combat was different, like hits carrying more weight and slower, but in the same way it felt more sluggish and clunkier without the combat fluidity of previous Assassin Creed games. I don't know if it was a right choice to imitate Dark Souls or Witcher for them. I think it's because of hit boxes in combat are over the place. When you dodge, you may take damage without the enemy weapon touching you. In the end it looked so less polished than in Dark Souls. And the protagonist looked much gloomier than in previous Assassin Creeds...lacking the predecessors' lightheartedness. At least this is how i felt in my 2 hour play. It looks like Origin has more historical value than entertament one. Reminded me pretty much Unity on this regard.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I played AC games, because it's just an amazing feeling walking around these fully realised ancient cities :)
I'll still play AC: Origins and Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry 5... I'm just a bit too tired of formulaic Ubisoft open world games at the moment.
@KungfuKitten: When microtransactions/lootboxes are in single player games where they cant give you an advantage over another person its perfectly fine to me cause I don't have the time I used to have to grind games to death and I don't mind buying some things if I really like the game and feel its worth it. Plus if you never bought anything in ACO you could absolutely get everything in game just by following the main storyline. Having said that ACO is amazing. I highly recommend it.
Have had Shadow of war for weeks now, managed to pick it up for £5 in a CDKeys glitch. No desire to play it though, despite loving the LOTR universe. Something about the game just look so bland and boring.
Have just bought an X with Origins though, can't wait to get stuck into that
Haven't played SOW. But I think Origins is amazing. Especially if you wanna get that AAA fix. The world of Origins is just specatcular, really love just exploring and using the new photomode. Gameplay wise Ubi has finally decided to go for a decent combat system. Think it means a lot as the game now has two legs to stand on, so they can mix up the pacing more. New combat also means that there are proper boss fights, which doesn't suck like in the previous games.
I mean just look at this shit (not my photos btw):
