Shane Kim: We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015

The big question is whether or not Microsoft is capable of pulling off such a feat. Sure Project NAtal is something that they are hoping will extend the life of the 360, but Microsoft will need to do more. They have Natal and in AUgust the digital game distribution but Microsoft cannot hold on with its lack of first party development.What do u guys think?

Fact that I'm sure everyone knows by now: by this time in the Original Xbox's life cycle MS had already pulled first party support for it in favor of the 360. What a difference one generation makes.

I hope so, that way my PC will be ahead of the curve for a very long time. 8)

I'm skeptical that any of the systems have a 10 year life cycle, 360 even more so because of its discs limited storage capacity.

Just because it has a lifecycle of 10 years doesn't mean the next console won't come out before then, like how PS2 is still alive and well after PS3's release. That is of course unless M$ decides to pull the plug on all support for the 360 when the next one coms out.

Life cycle and full support are two different things. The PS2 is still going, but it gets a tiny fraction of the support the PS3 gets. I'm sure it can go 10 years with companies like EA and Activision putting their annual multiplats on it. Also if they can tap into the casual market with natal it will help. But MS's next console will no doubt be out well before 2015Couth_

Next round of consoles will be announced at E3 2011. Released in 2012. Mark it.

The problem with the gameplay>graphics debate is this......With more advanced hardware comes the opportunity for better gameplay. These games are starting to create immersive environments that alter, change in real-time etc.......If you take away the power of the 360/PS3 and make Assassin's Creed for Wii....or Modern Warfare for Wii....or Dead Rising for Wii....the game wont give you the same experience. There's plenty of games that wouldnt be what they are without more power.

Atleast until 2012. Graphics are getting less important by the day to consumers, and to most people, the Xbox 360/PS3 offer good enough graphics to satisfy them for quite a while. For the future, if you want to see the most graphical leaps, even more so than before, you'll have to switch to PC. Consoles will be gradually making a shift elsewhere.

true. but that didn't stop sony from launching the ps3 half-way through the decade long ps2 life cycle. if the 360 truly has a 10 year life cycle as well, i wouldn't put it beside MS to launch the 720 around 2011/2012.

it will be leaps and bounds ahead. directx 11 is coming out in october with the launch of windows 7 and AMD is already in the testing phases of the Radeon 5800 series (which should launch along side of windows 7 barring any delays.) by 2015, i'm seeing windows 8 with directx 12. let's see: windows xp launched october 2001, windows vista launched in january 2007 and windows 7 in october 2009. yep. seems about right. maybe we'll also see AMD's 7 series and Nvidia's GTX 5 series by then.

The 360 may well have a "life cycle" lasting until 2015. But like Sony, that doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a new console in that time.

You know, this statement is a bit ridiculous. As this is said every generation until we truly see what the next-gen brings graphically. If the PS3 and 360 didnt show up, I would have been satisfied with PS2/Xbox graphics etc etc.....as times change expectations change.....Modern Warfare 2 will look like a joke when PS4 and the next Xbox hit shelves, guaranteed.

on top of that, intel is going to introduce the 32nm Core i7 "Westmere" chip later this year. this will be redesigned in 2010 with "Sandy Bridge" and shrunk in 2011 to 22nm in "Ivy Bridge". intel is also planning an 8 core chip in 2011 with a new cache architecture and something new called "multiply-add instruction" in "Haswell" chip.
