The dude from Half Life is HARDCORE OVVERATED. The Hermits love him for the same reason lems love Master Chief but the hermits downplay Master Chief HARD.
When tough guys have backstory like Marcus Fenix (Which they rarely do) and the rest of the Gears Cast. Then its pretty great.
But what I want is unique characters, like in Mass Effect. And other games I cant think of right now lol. Silent characters make me mad sometimes
But the best average joe Ive played is the dude from Bad Company. Funny game.
I hate tough guys. They're so boring an flat its annoying. So cliche most of the time also.
I guess I like the feminine male because at least they usually show some emotional depth.
Or the Average Joe is really great to, as long as he's not a boring silent hero.

That is spooky :o.
Wow.....
Lightning was always meant to be a female Cloud , design wise anyways.
On topic out of those i prefer the tough guy. Although, Freeman is anything but your average joe. Girly boys are too emotional. The tough guys provide tongue in cheek humour.
Cole for instance, amazing character. (Geow)

I was under the impression that Cloud was always a female, along with every other lead male FF character.
I prefer the cool characters the developers decide you shouldn't play as. I'd have rather played as Auron in Final Fantasy X than Tidus. I'd have rather played as Seargent Johnson in Halo instead of Master Chief(which was partially granted in ODST). I'd have rather played as Claptrap in Borderlands than any of those other guys. I'd have rather played as Cole Train in Gears than Marcus or Dom. I'd rather have played as.... Anyone else in Half-Life than boring Freeman. See what I'm saying?

But every lead character? Squall (FFVIII), Zidane (FFIX) and Tidus (FFX) look nothing like girls. And it's pretty obvious that Vaan (FFXII) is a guy.
A mix of the three. I like the humbleness and underdog attitude of the average joe hero, it's usually also better to connect with him; but at the same time it's stupid when a 15 year old or someone with no predisposed skills manages to save the world where no one else could. I like the tough guy because he makes up for what the average joe lacks, and that's confidence and skill. It's nice feeling like you're the best of the best, in control and an authority in the game world. And finally the more feminine male heroes have style and elegance that the tough guy usually lacks.
So in conclusion, I really like Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV.
On one hand, he's humble and he's not just there to kick ass and take names. He's got that small town vibe to him, thoughwhen push comes to shove he is a Captain, trained Dark Knight turned Paladin. And lastly, as you can see for all his badassery he has some elegance to him, not to mention long hair.
If he's looking a bit too feminine for you, this also happens to be the same character:
I wanna see your definition of shemal, pic link is broken.

I don't know why people bother with Photbucket. Imageshack.us people!
I think an example of a "she-male" (as used in TC's context) would be pretty much any male Square charactor for the last decade.

Okay, fine, Vaan is a girl with a smaller chest. Thus she can pass off as a guy in public and go bare-chested. Squall is like Cloud, only with brown hair and 10x the emo, and Tidus and Zidane are just annoying little school girls.

To be fair you can tell by the character designs that the guys looked just as feminine in the NES and SNES games. The systems back then just weren't as well equipped to show it.[QUOTE="felipebo"]I think an example of a "she-male" (as used in TC's context) would be pretty much any male Square charactor for the last decade.skektek

Are you serious? You can't get much more feminine than that without using a tampon
W.e the hell the characters from Killzone 2, UC2 and CoDMW2 are classified. Gangstah-Fresh
Nathan Drake I would probably consider an average joe.
Guys like in KZ would probably be considered tough guy or other perhaps.
Average Joes. Nathan Drake is still my second favorite character ever(right behind Commander Shepard, who is just a totally awesome badass)
Average Joe.
example might be
witcher "Geralt of rivia"
malikmmm
Umm what? Geralt was a tough bad ass through the whole game.

leave cloud alone lol but that probably is cloud after a heavy depression and the death of aries but i have to go with the bad ass who isnt a roid ragging freakI lol@ the she-male labeling. So... much... fail. Cultural difference, FTW. As for this, I'd rather play as a "she-male" if only because I'm used to 'em. Howver, I concur with funsohng.
