Shenmue III delayed

Your thoughts, SW? I didn't expect a big rpg like this to be finished so soon so it's no surprise to me. Anyone here a kickstarter backer of the game? I am.

No rush. They need to make the best possible version for Windows PC.

I'm not surprised it won't be at E3 or this year anyways. The new character that they showed was good news and I don't expect Shenmue III until the end of 2018. It would be best if Shenmue I & II remasters are released at least a year before III is out, so that newcomers will be familiar with the story and not be confused.

I'm ok with this. I donated and took the risk. Shenmue is too important of a game to me not to. If the game isn't ready then it isn't ready. Try to make it the best they can with the meager budget they have. I hope they can get some financial backing to help with the project. I just want it to be the best that it can be.

Revamping it for Mighty Scorpio, definitive edition so it's all good. :P

Don't expect it to be amazing with the tiny budget anyway.

They have a slacker backer campaign or a patreon for people that want to continue giving the dev team money. I'm not sure how much they are getting from it, but I'm sure every little bit helps.

Remasters will be at Sony E3, lets start taking bets.

Sony only got 1 or 2 titles coming out for the rest of the year, we knew this. Sony likely release GT and Days gone this year, that's it.

This will have the Yooka Laylee problem. Too old school without updating any of the games' systems.

I doubt they meet that goal as well. This is the next Last Guardian.

I don't expect this to be the final time that it gets delayed. If the game is released before 2019, I would be very surprised.

I also expect that this game will be a disappointment to a lot of people when it finally arrives and damage Shenmue's legacy.

Or the next Eight Days, or the next Getaway, or closed up like the next Evolution.

I don't think it will get cancelled, it's only been 2 years. I fully expected them to take 2-4 years to complete the game. Especially since I'm a backer and they haven't shown us much with their monthly updates.

Yeah, i don't have much faith in fan funded games that much.

How long was that Mighty 9 game in development? Hope Sony doesn't rush them to release it next year, but i really don't care for the series, cause Yakuza exists.

Yup I'm backing it, pledged enough to be in the credits. If Yu gives us HD remasters of 1 & 2 while we wait it'd be a little easier. Must kill Lan Di!

Oh yeah, it's definitely going to be a mess from the perspective of the masses. It's a weird project, and definitely only a fan-guided one, because someone who doesn't already love the series and/or can't stomach returning to a bygone era of niche game design is flat out not going to like this game. It's being made for a small group of us (which is weird, and probably the main reason it was kickstarted - to ensure there was some money there for them to earn at all from such a project)

@Ant_17: Yakuza does fill the void pretty well. I always considered it a spiritual successor to shenmue.

I'm a backer. I also fully expected this. Not enthused but not angry either. Hopefully we get a Shenmue HD Collection announcement next week. I'm not holding my breath though.

Yeah, a simple look at a walkthrough of the first two games can be a bit cringe inducing at times. And I say this as someone who played and adored the first Shenmue.

No worries, SONY is churning out AAAE exclusives at a barn bursting pace.

Kind of a bummer, I thought it was gonna be holiday 2017 however if it's gonna take an extra year for 3 to live up to 1&2's standards I'm fine with that. If E3 doesn't magically bring us HD remakes of the first two I'm hooking the Dreamcast back up. It's been too long.
