Well Carmack's games are pretty uninspired. Sure Doom and Quake were fun in the 90s, but now they're pretty bland. He's a good programmer and that's as much as I would give him. So Miyamoto it is.PS2_ROCKSI agree with you, but you're forgetting how he, along with Id Software as a whole, accommodated the modding community of all of his games and releases the source code for all the games developed by Id Software as well as selling their engines to other developers. If it weren't for that, then quite a few very popular games and mods would not exist today.

Miyamoto. When Nintendo first came to him to make a game for them, he was only a young artist. He wasnt some engineer like most devs back then when the gaming industry was falling. Now look at him. I salute the father of gaming. And some of his oldest characters such as Mario and Link are well known by the masses and still live on in gaming today.
It should be 'whom do you respect more'
but anway I pick Miyamoto

Carmack crafted and invented some of the best shooter titles of all time.

Miyamoto has had and continues to maintain profound offerings to video game canon and thus I respect him more. Not everyone likes shooting games or games by Carmack, but the chances of finding someone that doesn't like a single Mario or Miyamoto offering is quite rare.

Carmack also was the first to make a engine powering traditional platforming games (smooth side scrolling) on the PC, a feat at the time that was thought to be impossible in every way.
Miyamoto's input into game industry is far greater and more respect worthy. That said, looking outside of games Carmack's intellect completely dwarfs Shiggy's
Miyamoto doesn't have all that much variety to be honest, more than Carmack, yes, but it's pretty easy to imagine people who don't like any of Shiggy's games. All he made through his career are arcade action games of many varieties. And that's not something everyone likesNot everyone likes shooting games or games by Carmack, but the chances of finding someone that doesn't like a single Mario or Miyamoto offering is quite rare.

technology would have moved forward with or without them, but imo john carmack is more important, they both started something but i think carmack is still pushing technical limits and Miyamoto is just remaking the same game over and over again with tweaks, I loved pikmin and I'd love to see more from him but he's still stuck on zelda/marioI agree with you, but you're forgetting how he, along with Id Software as a whole, accommodated the modding community of all of his games and releases the source code for all the games developed by Id Software as well as selling their engines to other developers. That's really not very true. Carmack admitted himself that if they hadn't done it, someone else would have.[QUOTE="Lucianu"][QUOTE="kdawg88"] I agree with you, but you're forgetting how he, along with Id Software as a whole, accommodated the modding community of all of his games and releases the source code for all the games developed by Id Software as well as selling their engines to other developers. Yeah, i know. If some X important guy didn't exist, someone els would have taken he's place. What if George Washington never led the american victory over Britain in the revolutionary war?
Point is, we can assume all we want what would have happened if Carmack didn't make it, but those remain mearly assumptions..

XD, 5 brownie points.Eh, John who? *checks his wiki page*
Uh... You fo'real? Why is this nobody even in the same thread as Shigeru? I assume it's only because nostalgia, how he was involved with some pixelated crappy shooters such as Doom and Wolfenstein? Are we really comparing this dude to Shigeru Miyamoto... Fo'real?

Dude... you dont think someone else would have ever figured out how to make a game in first person and put a gun in the person's hands? REALLY?
For the time it was groundbreaking, and they were the first.... but dont try and pretend that FPS wouldnt exist if they hadnt done it first.
[QUOTE="starfox15"]i wasn't a fan of wiifit or wiimusic So? starfox is saying it's hard to find someone who doesn't like even a single game made by Miyamoto especially with the Mario classics. Why bring out wii fit and wii music? Such unnecessary post. You didn't understand, did you?Carmack crafted and invented some of the best shooter titles of all time.

Trying to come up with an idea for an fps is easier than to come up with clever puzzles and fun challenges in action adventure games and platformers. What's more is that Miyamoto designed a lot of games since the start of his career. The absence of Miyamoto in video game history would be more devastating than the absence of Carmack.I was never a big fan of any of Carmack's games... but I did enjoy having a nintendo and playing as some of the most iconic game characters in video gaming, so I guess I'd go with Miyamoto. Donkey Kong 1 & 2 and some Mario titles ( Yoshi's Island, All-stars, etc. ) were incredibly fun to play at that time.
They probably still are.
Pixelated crappy shooters? Those were some of the best games when they came out. You must be one of those gamers that started gaming this gen or something.Eh, John who? *checks his wiki page*
