Looks like cows can't clamor for the series to move over, nor can they use it in a multiplat argument.

"©2009 Epic Games, Inc., except underlying technology ©2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved."

As you can read, the first 3 games are owned by Microsoft due to Microsoft's technology used in the design of the games (which I'm assuming is DirectX), whereas the Gears of War intellectual property is still held by Epic. Oh, and you can't forget that Microsoft owns the "http://www.gearsofwar.com/" domain, which redirects you to an Xbox.com subpage. And FYI, Microsoft is once again the publisher for the third installment (who didn't see that coming?).

Just wanted to let you guys know that Pachter spouting that "two game deal" bull was just that, bull. The series won't be going multiplat, unless it is on numerous Microsoft platforms (ie, Windows).

So all xbox games are owned by MS? They are all coded using DX you know. But Gears can stay with MS if it makes you happy though.

This old news. 4 yeays old to be exactly.

Microsoft and Epic cooperation and Microsoft exclusivity as publishing rights is well know.

But I don't think gears has the influence it had on 2006-2008, I myself couldn't care less for gears.

Maybe my understanding of "underlying technology" is not just. I wasn't aware that all Xbox 360 games used DirectX, or they wouldn't be available on the PS3 which isn't compatible with DirectX.

I had always assumed the IP is owned by Mocrosoft. I mean, if it wasn't then what was stopping them from putting Gears 2 on the PS3? Sure Microsoft was the publisher but I figure after the First Gears Epic probably would have earned well enough fro mthose five million copies to publish Gears 2 themselves, like how they published Unreal 3 themsevles and made more money off of multiple platforms. Obviously theres more to it than Epic owning the property themselves or else we'd see it on other platforms. Unless Cliffy jjust feels that Gears belongs to xbox, but knowing he has a PS3 I seriously doubt he's a fanboy.

it's a PC360 game. but I want to know for sure what MS has staked into the game.

so then we can put all the conspiracy theories to rest.

Somebody should really start archiving pachter's wrong predictions/analysis, erase what little credibility he ever had.

"Shocking Discovery" is facetious and is only there to poke fun at the cows for getting butthurt over Final Fantasy Versus XIII's multiplat fate.

LMAO, they already have. It's called Unreal Engine 3. 'Underlying technology' is referring to something else.

So what you are saying all they have to do is port the game without direct X.......ok what's the issue? They design the port without direct X which I assume would be easy. You do know there have been games that have been published by MS and then ported to PS3 right? You admit MS doesn't own the IP but you say they can't port the game lol..........I'm confused.

Ninja Gaiden II was not published by Microsoft Game Studios. It was distributed (once again, NOT published) by Microsoft (which is separate from Microsoft Game Studios). Don't believe me? Call Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and ask. And that one game does not deserve the plural "games". As for you thinking that porting a game using DirectX to the PS3 would be easy... LMAO. Why did Sigma 2 have to be completely re-worked?

That doesn't matter anyway. It turns out that Microsoft owns the actual build of each Gears of War- the games themselves. Epic Games can't have any of the first three Gears games ported without Microsoft's permission. Do you think Microsoft would easily throw out a 'yes' to have their games available on a competitor's system? It ain't happening, so give up.

Um thats what porting is for. All Xbox games and most PC use DX and MS will give anyone a license for free. Directx is not really a product that MS tries to make money off of, its just an API, like the Windows API, that MS provides to developers to help entice them to develop for their platforms.

Whatever the underlying technology is its not Direct X. MS was the publisher for Ninja Gaiden in NA but whatever the deal was it didn't give them rights to the franchise, which would be insane on Tecmos' part considering they could just publish it themselves. My guess is Tecmo always planned to make it multiplat, which is plausable after Sigma, and MS convinced them to make it timed exclusive in exchange for marketing costs in NA.

Hopefully this puts a rest to people claiming Gears of War is going to PS3.
