SHOCKING: Fallout 5 might be coming out 20 YEARS AFTER Fallout 4. Feeling old yet?

With the extremely long dev time from Badthesda, this is most likely accurate within 1-2 years difference. Its shocking me to the core how this developer isn't even able to take advantage of the hype the Fallout Show has gotten. Crazy to think that the OG Obsidian were able to craft NV under two years, while you'll be waiting until you're a senior citizen to play Fallout 5. Very deflating.

It really takes Hype and excitement away from a franchise if new installments can't be release every 4 years or so.

However I would like a remastered version of New Vegas, as the PC version takes like 2 hours worth of mod work to get playable and the console versions are mediocre at best

If Bethesda isn't that big a developer (and from what i hear, they're pretty small), wasting time and resources on an old game that everyone who cared, has already played, is a waste of time. And lets not forget, their "remaster" will be like the next gen fallout 4 patch, its dogshit. It'd be one thing if they did an amazing port of the engine to the UE5, and it looked awesome, but that's simply not what we will ever see. They have trouble working with their own engine, let alone work with UE5.

Fallout 5 is the first game I have ever anticipated that Im not 100% positive Ill be around to enjoy. Its a strange feeling

By then, Skynet might've already taken over years before '34-'35.

A New Vegas remaster is much needed. I would be more excited about that than Fallout 5.

I just picked up fallout new Vegas for £4.19 in the ms sale. Got the urge to play some fallout.

Just for reference, they released two entire ES games in one generation....

Mass effect trilogy came out in one generation...

One generation had 3 entire grand theft auto games.

Who is asking for games to be this spaced out? I mean? It cannot be profitable for a company to say we're gonna have a 20 year dev cycle on our popular franchises.... If they think I want cutting edge graphics, famous voice actors and whatever else I can assure then I do not. Just good ideas please.

But see these games were made during peak console gaming.

We are no longer in peak console gaming, there is no more money in making 3 GTA games with several excellent titles in between (manhunt, bully, the warriors).

the most money comes from mobile and *sigh* live service/microtransaction/skins

So it doesn't help having lots of games. You'd wanna focus on one game, get that game into the hands of as many, many people as possible and get them to spend lots on useless items (skins stores, battle passes).

They obviously wanted Starfield to last until Fallout 5 but this is not the case.

In short companies wanna focus on this one surefire hit.

and get blinded by recurring/endless profit, as shown on this cycle here.

Oh and lastly, as they are focussing on less and less games, they wanna focus on the bigger franchises. Those names that attract an audience. That is why Microsoft is spending so much and that is why Fallout, the big name that it is, can survive 10 years without a game and people will still go buy it.

GaaS is one of the main issues. Do we truly believe that they wouldn't have already released ES6 if ESO wasn't a thing? Same applies to Fallout 5, they ain't in a hurry cuz when people ask for a Fallout game, Bethesda tells em to go play Fallout 76. Its crazy to think that the company thinks that we're OK with such shovelware instead of a proper singleplayer sequel.

Imagine waiting over 20 years for disappointement. Bethesda would probably still be using the same engine they use now for Fallout 5 lol.

This isn't the 7th gen anymore. We're never gonna get this kind of thing back as you said it perfectly when gaming was at its peak with full of developers passion for making games. Over-budgeting these games has gotten out of control for AAA games. At least Indie games still keeps on innovating IMO.

Hopefully they will have put significant improvements into the engine after all that time

FO London just came out tho and is pretty darn good.

Let's hope the BGS gets a whole new writing team by the time they start working on FO5.... and like... a whole new philosophy for designing main quests and NPCs.

@robert_sparkes: A word of advice. Save manually every half an hour, and in different slots because a few of them are going to get corrupted.

I had 10 different save slots by games end.

We need the industry to stop focussing on graphics, and we need smaller team sizes.

We also need new IP back, new IP is the life blood for this industry.

Developing games suddenly became really hard for Bethesda. They haven't done anything since Skyrim, really. Fallout 4 felt like a soulless mod to Skyrim. Starfield looks like a soulless mod to Skyrim. And it took them 8 years to make. 8 years of their "hard work" only for me to laugh at how terrible their work looks. Could've had two new Elder Scrolls games by now, but instead I got a really ugly barebones space game with reused assetts from Skyrim.

it just shows how slow they're capable of moving when they cant line up a fallout game to tie in with the show that was announced back in summer 2020. that or they didn't have the business savvy to recognise the potential of a tv series tie in with one of their major franchises. fallout 4 remaster was a novelty that immediately got old as soon as the tv series ended, a lot of which was to do with it having nothing to do with the plot of the show. one of the few things you can credit naughty dog with this gen is being ready to pounce with tlou remake when the tv show launched and keep the show aligned with the game.

No reason for Bethesda to make the next Fallout now that MS owns them; they could get a different game studio that would be better for the franchise than them, like inXile Entertainment.

As said in the video i posted above, Larian was interested to work on the Fallout IP. Now imagine if they make the new fallout game, and its undeniably far ahead of anything else Fallout related. How is Bethesda supposed to recover from that? Nobody would want them to be in charge of Fallout 6 lmao. If MS allows another studio to make fallout 5, they better not be too talented or it'll make Bethesda look like some laughing stock.

It feels as though indie games will be our only choice in another decade or so.... The money swirling around AAA gaming is not in the favor of the games of my youth...

@TheEroica: and it's a shame, you know: a lot of indies and AA games would shine with a bit more budget (more gameplay ideas, a bit longer or just more refined all around).

But AAA publishers are not willing to back these projects anymore (well EA does EA originals from time to time, and Epic is funding a few projects).

We already know just how useless Bethesda remasters are. They never bother to fix any of the game breaking bugs, **** up mod support and only add a couple new post processing effects to make the game looks shinier. The end result is always worse than what the gamers already had with their modded setups, which are broken to shit now because of the forced update.

Obsidian were much more talented than anything Bethesda, and the game launched in alpha stage with a ton of game breaking bugs. Obsidian doesn't have that talent anymore, tho.

@hardwenzen: I don't think that will happen. I think MS will force Fallout, at least as far as a spin-off title, away from Bethesda. I would put money on a new fallout game coming out in or around 2027, if not earlier.

Not to mention that Todd The Liar has already said that he'll be in charge of Fallout 5 after ES6, and ES6 can be 5 years from being ready to coming out. And the second reason why its not happening is because they can't allow another, better studio to develop the game, or Bethesda will receive even more shit for being garbage at game development. Why do you think they never gave Fallout to Obsidian after NV, even when Obsidian wanted real bad to make another FO game? I just picked up fallout 3 and new Vegas on 360 have to restart my save all over again. Fallout 5 is years away we haven't even heard anything about it in the pipeline.
