Shooters....PS3

So I watched the presentation and I will have to say Sony really is focusing on the shooters this time around. I would say that I would put the ps3 to take the crown as the shooter console. With Resistance 2, KZ2, SOCOM, MGS4, and MAG which are very hyped games to boot.

I always find it funny how people shoe horn the 360 into that stereotype. Do not get me wrong I enjoy both the 360 and the PS3 and I also enjoy shooters. This year for the 360 there are how many shooters that are hyped. I could be wrong but I would say 1 Gears of War 2.

So I would say that the PS3 has taken the crown from the 360 as the shooter console. Well in my opinion that is.

You say that but the pad sucks compared to the competition (esp when it comes to shooters).

Here's the difference the 360 have AAA caliber shooters while the PS3 have medicore shooters and sequels to those mediocre shooters.

The 360 is just in a great position to branch out even more and get more rpg games and get more casual games.

I wouldn't be surprise if Sony shows more casual games and rpg games next E3. They're always behind.

PS3 has a balanced library. Look at the games for 2008 so far. Hot Shots Golf, MLB08 The Show, Singstar, MGS4, and GranTursimo. That looks pretty balanced to me.

PS3 also has the best action games with Uncharted and Heavenly Sword

PS3 also has some unique titles like Eye of Judgement, Time Crisis4, upcoming Little Big Planet and Buzz

Depends on how you play it. I played it as a shooter by just spending all my Drebin points on heavy weaponary.

Can I also say that the ones who said that used to call ME and bioshock shooters (because they had guns :? ) so thats why you're seeing lems lump games like MGS and Uncharted in with straight forward shooters in reply to some of the other posts in this thread.

Like M$ didn't start it off with Halo and GOW?!? But seriously, every decade has it's "it genre" and right now it's shooters (Halo3, GeOW1 and 2, Battlefield, Half, Life, KZ 1 and 2, R1 and 2, MAG, UT3, etc...). Face it, if you want the masses to go on-line, go with what's hot. Fighters are making a slight comeback though... And btw, MGS4 is not a shooter, it just has the optional FPS view, that's all. What make MSG4 not a shooter? Stealth? Crysis has a stealth part of the game. You say MSG4 has a optional FPS view. Gears does not have that option so it must not be a shooter. You have hand to hand combat (CQC) Gears has hand to hand as does Crysis even Halo 3 does. I am just pointing out that you can say one thing and justify what you are saying very easily.

Am I saying that the PS3 is the new shooter console not really, just attempting to prove a point. Yes the PS3 has a very shooter heavy lineup currently and that is all it took for the 360 to get this stereotype.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. The fact is that the PS3 didn't come out the same time, it actually even got delayed. And where have you been, didn't you know that the PS3 is hard to develope for.

But yea, I'd say that pretty much the main focus for the ps3 is shooters, they just don't do them as good as MS.

MGS4 is a shooter. You dont have to play stealth. You can just shoot your way through.

PS3 has more exclusives so they can have as many shooters as they want to sattisfy consumers because at the end sonys lineup is the most diverse. Unlike MS first 3 years were all about shooters and now they try to fix their mistake buying square enix for some RPGs but its too late now.Hitman533

The 360 has almost three years worth of games so obviously it will be slightly more diverse but remember its biggest games have GEOW, Halo, Bioshock (yes its a shooter, look at IGN's genre), COD4, PDZ, etc. Now is it just a shooter console, no of course not but its first couple years definatly cattered to that.

The PS3s bigger hits have been Resistance, MGS4, HS, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, GTP, COD4, etc.. alot more diverse. It also has a new Ratchet game, LBP, Valkrie chronicles (probably spelled wrong), GOW 3, etc.. in E3 so its far from just a shooter console.

Its like someone already posted this gen. is heavy on the online capabilities and the best kind of games to play online and get a ton of quick sales are FPS. There is just no two ways about it. It shows in the PS3 and 360. I still see alot more diversity coming from Sonys 1st party dev companies then MS's.

You wont get far, "guns blazing" on harder difficulty. Its all up to the player, if I kill everyone with a knife does that make it a hack n slash, thats where your logic leads. Its a stealth action game. Not a shooter.

What makes a shooter a shooter? Guns, FPS view? I would like to know what your definition is.

I know the MSG4 box says Tactical Espionage Action. So what make this different than lets say Crysis? I can in crysis; sneak around in stealth, switch to strength and duke it out with someone and run and gun to my heart content. How is this different than MSG4? I guess I can not get the "street fighter" type of fight like you get in the end of MSG4. Does that make the difference?

When I played MSG4 the first time I got the Bull reward. Meaning I perty much rolled everyone. So is this not a shooter because it says so on the box?
