So a game like oblivion made bethesda go bust?ShazenabWell, they did charge for horse armor. Maybe that's the reason.
People act like the shortness of a game is a hinderance. its accually a benefit. If a game is great, you'd want to replay it. Its much easier/satisfactory to replay a 10 hour game, than a 50 hour game. games length is overrated. shadow_lord_11Lies. I'd rather it continue to suck me in then just beat it and play it again. I'd rather play 1 great 60 hours game than 4 great 10 hour games. Easy. (Also better for my wallet).
Okay, I think to many people complain about games being too short. One examlpe people keep refering to is Gears of War. Do you people realize how much it costs to make a video game now? MILLIONS. Some developers can't afford to make long games because it may cost way too much. Also, games are probably going to get a lot shorter, as video games go more main stream. I mean, if you think about it, no casual is going to want to spend 40+ hours on a game, plus, its all about online and multiplayer now.iammason

MMO's, GTA, The Sims, and other highly replyable games with no real end in sight say: "You are wrong."
Actually, game lenght is not directly proportional to cost.
Â
This is to say, a game might cost $10 million and be 10 hours long. Making it 20 hours long maybe would cost $12 million, not 20.
Â
This is because there are many fixed costs to making a game: The engine will cost the same. The character designs will. The whole design, story and scripting will not increase lineally. The percentage of art and texturing to be done is smaller than the percentage increase of the game. It's just appending and increasing the story and making some new maps, maybe adding a couple weapons, and some new textures.

what if 1 of those 4 great 10 hour games has great multiplayer? You could just as easily spend 10 hours playing halo campeing, and the 50 hours multiplayer for the same price.
Â
Also, longer games (traditionaly rpgs) dont have multiplayer whereas shorter games do. You cant just say that a 10 hour game is a ten hour game and be done with it. gears may be 8-10 hours but it also has multiplayer. that leads to unlimited bang for the buck. Â

I don't do the multiplayer thing these days. Probably will again at some point, but not at the moment.[QUOTE="shadow_lord_11"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="shadow_lord_11"]People act like the shortness of a game is a hinderance. its accually a benefit. well in that case i guess longer games are better for you. But another problem which arises with longer games is that once your done, your pretty much DONE. i dont know about you, but i cant stomach the thought of playing a 50 hour game again most times. wheres i go through games like RE4 and Metroid Prime 2-3 times because they are so good, and not very time consuming. shadow_lord_11Yeah, very few really long games have I played multiple times. Chrono Trigger and FFVI being notable exceptions. And Chrono Cross. Played em all 3 times at least.
Â
Everytime someone says games these days are really short, I have to go back to 2001...And think of this game.
Â
Just like Gears of War QUALITY > QUANTITY in some cases...Â

Â
Yeah, that's not the game's fault. it's more of a problem of your preference than the game's actual content. In some cases, it's like ordering, say, a Santa Fe or Mojave salad, and claim it doesn't have enough content because you don't eat lettuce.

Umm. Sure, if you say so. I never complained, and I don't buy them. I was just commenting. On a side note, is there a place on this website or any where they list the average time it takes to complete a game? Please Log In to post.
