Hey guys, well I'll go straight to the point. Upgrade my pc or buy an xbox 360? In fact, I only need to upgrade my graphics, what it will cost me some 200-300€, slighty higher than an xbox 360- 250gb. I would upgrade my pc, but in these days I don't know. It seems, that pc is lacking off games, I mean look at doom, half-life, duke nukem... those were supposed to be pc exclusives, but know you can find them on any console (roll on the floor laughing on wii's face). They get console exclusives, and our exclusives as well. So, since the videogame market is so focused on consoles right now, I guess my smartest move would be an Xbox, but the truth is, I hate console software, I prefer pc so much, where your games are all in desktop, a click away. Now xbox has the physical games, plus the xbox live arcade games, it sucks that I can't have everything physical or digital. Other thing, is the backward compatibility, pc games are eternal, xbox games aren't. And to finish, the multiplayer, every time a new game comes out, everyone forgets thelast one, except on pc, where games of 2004 are still being played by thousands (millions on world of warcraft)So, concluding, should I upgrade my pc which I love but recently has only seen fps, rts and rpg's, or buy a console which I don't like as pc (but a game is a game) that has seen, and will see a bunch of cooler games?I don't want to leave world of warcraft or spore, but oh well, I guess alan wake, and gears of war would make the job done.

Thanks.

Upgrade the PC then buy a 360 later. There's isn't too much outside of Gears 3 and kinect games on the 360 this year, so if anything wait till E3 and see what's up.

What video card are you getting?

For now,

PC - Superior multiplatforms, more indie games for variety's sake, mods that can make games look 2 - 3 generations ahead that trully take advantage of PC hardware, and literally complete, perfect freedom in terms of everything comprehendable by the human mind.

Why is this a question?

I was in your situation about 2.5 years ago. I was primarily a PC gamer. I still use my PC for some MMOs but I play most on the Xbox 360 now. I got tired of upgrading PCs and then sometimes upgrading and not having my hardware supported yet, etc., etc.

As a life long console gamer, I have to say that I have seen the light of PC gaming. I tried playing Black Ops on my 360 the other day and just couldn't do it. In a span of just 3 weeks I have fallen in love with the WASD and mouse for shooters, RPGS and of RTS type games. In all honesty Id alsmost say the 360 will be my last console unless the next generation of consoles is just simply mind blowing.

Why is this a question?

Lucianu

Because, in the last yearsthe pc hasn't seen a single action exclusive (except witcher 2 and that is more an rpg). Im not really the strategy type, I only like spore and that is more like a casual rts. And there are dozens of games, exclusive to consoles, that won't get a peek on pc, cool action games. But I don't think I can play only for games, I need "software confort" which I can only find on pc. It's a hard choice, im not going to lie. :c

Unless you want to play 360 exclusives and 360/PS3 non-PC games, go with the PC.

If you don't enjoy what the PC has to offer and you're simply going to miss the diverse pallet of games on the system, please, go buy an Xbox.

Oh, i understand you.

Though i criticize them for being outdated gimped PCs with a closed enviorement and a lack of variety (except the Wii, which acts like a console), i am getting one of the HD twins sooner or later.

I really gotta play Bayonetta and Vanquish.

So i can say that i do understand your perspective wen you're saying that there are console exclusives that you want to play. If i were you, i would honestly work like a month some were and get both a video card and a cheap HD console (they are extremely cheap, if you know were to look).

You know what? I don't know now. I'm confused also. :c

I understand the reversion, I'll stick to PC because a) I'm a programmer b) I need a 'gaming' PC for work anyway

Otherwise I could see playing less games and eventually moving to console as well.

The PC gaming "hassles" are mostly outdated, inacurate BS from console only gamers who like to hate on something they don't understand and is better that what they got.

PC gaming has never been more affordable. Games are cheaper and they drop in price much, much quicker than on console. Also digital download outlets like Steam can offer incredible sales that retail on consoles can't match. things like an ENTIRE PUBLISHERS list of games for like $60. You're not going to find a sale like that at gamestop. Period.

PC Gaming has never been easier. I haven't had to worry about updating my games in like 4 years. They autoupdate in the background thanks to Steam. Same goes for video drivers. I can start playing one game, have a friend PM me IN-game to play some other game with him, and I cna be there ready to go in 3 seconds flat.

No stupid DVD's to look for, no long loading times, no waiting to play ym game cause the PS3 needs yet another firmware update.

Finally PC hardware that can play today's games at WAY better graphics quality and resolution AND FPS than any of the consoles can be had for CHEAP. Quad core CPU's that will get the job done go for $80. GPU's that can get the job done go for $120. Whole systems can be had for $500-$600 that will not only pwn the consoles in terms of graphics and performance, and give you access to the best classic and modern exclusive and multi-plat games on any platform, but will also run your spreadsheet, edit your family's HD video and stream netflix, HULU, Youtube, etc, etc.

So don't be silly. Update your video card. A nice $200 investment will serve you for many years and will net you graphics that the consoles can only wish for.

It's a no-brainer, IMHO.

For $160 you can get a HD6850, a card which will max any game @ 1920*1080. That's cheaper than a 360 i believe.

I would argue having to periodically update your PC hardware is a hassle. And then sometimes finding out, after you purchased and installed a new piece of hardware, that your favorite game(s) doesn't support your new $200+ hardware. I remember that happening and boy was that not a hassle (sarcasm).

Being a PC gamer since 1990s and PS3 owner since 2007 this particular statement is not correct, unless of course you're playing your PS3 once every 5 months..

Firmware updates are reasonably quick, 5-10 minutes for complete download and installation, faster if you have better connection and as I mention earlier happen every couple of months. That's hardly an inconvenience. We have come a long way since simple Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo days. ;)

You make couple of other exaggerated points but I won't quote and debate them, we all have our opinions.

I absolutely agree however, being a PC gamer this days is much, much cheaper both in hardware upgrades and games in general (amazing Steam sales).

There is no reason, if someone wishes to be PC gamer, to invest some money. Little work, some savings and you're good. And no, you don't need 2000$ to enjoy great quality PC can offer, being smart, reposeful and especially - educated (which takes 30 minutes with google) to find out which components and prices are the best for your needs, value for your hard earned money.

When did that happen? 1998?

What piece of $200 hardware wasn't supported?

That might have been the case in the 90's, but not anymore. Hence my statement about most of this being OUTDATED BS.

I agree that PC gmaing a decade a ago was a pain in the ass. But that is simply NOT the case now.

Frequent upgrades are not necessary. They are optional. Unless with "periodic" you mean 3-5 years. In which case

That was a little hyperboly to get my point accross I admit.

Though I did run into two firmware updates on my PS3 and SEVERAL game updates that locked me out fo doing anythign else on my xbox 360 during the brief time I owned them.

So my MAIN point, that these things that console gamers ALWAYS brign up as being a pain in the ass on the PC are actually a NON-ISSUE on the PC and still a pain on the consoles, is still correct.

I agree with everythign else you said though.

Most people will answer without reading the OP (albeit that its a wall of text), but if you like PC games more than just upgrade your PC. Unless you don't have any other consoles, in which case a 360 would be a good idea for that alone.

lol I went through a similar experience. The original Xbox with Halo was what brought me back. The PC does have hassles, however it IS worth it. I just have no problem playing both.

Get an xbox 360 for the exlusives, it gets most PC games as well

I would never miss Dark Souls, yet 360 gets both Skyrim and Witcher 2 and probably Diablo 3 too

Well Xbox 360 are lacking exlusives this year. Gears of War 3 is coming later this year, if that's one of your favorite games, go with the Xbox. However, Pc is gonna be good this year with superior versions of multiplatform games especially Battelfield 3. So, it depends what games you like. I would prefer PC because of superior muliplats and some exclusives. Only get xbox for Halo or Gears of war.

[QUOTE="Kinthalis"]The PC gaming "hassles" are mostly outdated, inacurate BS from console only gamers who like to hate on something they don't understand and is better that what they got.KC_Hokie
I would argue having to periodically update your PC hardware is a hassle. And then sometimes finding out, after you purchased and installed a new piece of hardware, that your favorite game(s) doesn't support your new $200+ hardware. I remember that happening and boy was that not a hassle (sarcasm).

Whoa, it's like I just got dropped into the 90s. >_> DirectX has made stuff like that so rare as to not be an issue.

Upgrade PC or buy a PS3, it has way more exclusives than 360

I've made my choice, I'll upgrade my PC. You guys are right, xbox isn't as good as pc. This year PC has great exclusives (darkspore, the witcher 2, dota 2, guildwars 2, star wars: the old republic, the secret world) and the xbox will get only two (forza 4 and gears of war 3). I am not saying Xbox sucks, I am just saying that the PC fits better my preferences, still I am sad that a lot of games won't see the light on the pc, but hey there are also a lot of pc games that will never hit the consoles. My dream is one day, Xbox and Pc and Playstation all form a console, and everyone produces to it, instead of everyone being "fighting" for the sex of the angels... imagine all the people playing the same game, the multiplayer communities would be huge, and it would be great, still it's only a dream. Until then, I'll stick with my PC, and who knows I'll buy a NGP for some casual games like uncharted, little big planet, resistance, killzone, etc...

Thanks to all who showed useful to help me, and screw the others who said 'want me to choose your dinner'?

See You Guys.
