should live be "pay to play" or "pay as you play"

just thinking of im kinda mad, since i do have a live account but i hate going on live (mostly because of the people being such idiots) and the fact i sold my only game i had for it last week. but now i have this gold membership that im not even using. so if MS is going to charge why cant they charge for how long you play, like 5cents and hour. i mean if you play at least 3 hours a day (loser) thats 15 cents a day, times roughly 30 days in a month is 450 times 12 months which is 5400 cents or $54 a year. id be happy to pay while i play, but right now my money is being wasted on nothing. anyone else agree?

Live should be free like everyone else. PS3, Nintendo, Steam, Xfire, Battle.net, etc..

I think it would be fine if they wanted to charge for "premium" services though. But basic matchmaking should be free. I don't believe anyone should have to pay to play with their friends.

Seriously though, MS would still make oodles of money from selling DLC and various accessories even if the online gaming were free, and vice versa. It should be one or the other, not charging for both, though.

If you're going to be charged at all you should pay to play. Paying as you play would be too much of a hassle.

I don't think you should be charged at all......I mean PC gamers haven't paid ever (outside of MMOs which is different) and yet you pay for XBL. That's hogwash. Just gimme the online play and make me pay for the extras....video messaging, etc...
