I know I'm getting to the point of spamming now, but this has a completely different topic from my other threads.

Basically should Microsoft have stayed out of the console market and focused on a more aggressive PC campaign?

It's no lie Hermits hate MS - I don't. Even though their actions are compelled by greed they are helpingmy gaming platform, the PC. Because of their endless greed and lust for money, I can walk into my EB games and browse a huge collection of PC games, on a wall, instead of sifting through a barrel at the back of the store. I can try out games before I buy them - in the store, thanks again, to Microsoft.

Nvidia makes GPUs, we need those to play PC games. Corsair makes RAM, we need those to play PC games. Microsoft makes the OS which we need to play PC games... but out of all those companies which benefit from PC gaming and which all are vital to PC gaming, only Microsoft is taking the initiative to help my platform grow. That's why I still believe that I owe my gaming to Microsoft. No one else gives two ***** about PC gaming culture except MS.

I wish they never would have entered the console war. I wish it was just Nintendo and Sony, the way it should have stayed. They should have focused on using their endless wealth to expand the PC market... kind alike what they're doing now, but more aggressively.

Are you kidding? By entering the market, MS has strengthened the gaming business. The competition is now on fire, and the result, more years like 1998. There are a hell of a lot of promising games coming out for each system. 2004 was awesome, 2006 was great, 2007 seems like it will end in an awesome way, and 2008 looks very promising too.

Plus, you gotta hand it to MS with their Halo marketing strategy. The publicity for the game might annoy those who don't like it, but we as gamers, should appreciate it, because it's givingthe gaming industry a serious image; that blockbuster video games are out there and are on par with Blockbuster movies.

Not stopped, but stayed with. The PS3 was not needed yet IMO. PS2Wii60 would have been good enough until at least 2009/2010.

If it wasn't for a desire to beat Sony to the punch, which resulted in a system prone to defect, MS would have made the best gaming console ever. MS's console is designed to allow dev's to make a great game w/o having to pull hair out trying to figure out how to program for it. MS's console is a gaming device first and everything else second. Sony tried to push some new medium on gamers because they just sold 100 plus million consoles. So yeah, MS should not leave. I look forward to their next console. Maybe they'll learn that making a great machine that's been checked and proven to be durable is just as important as being first out the gate. BTW, I own a PS3.

Great post. No offense but why did you choose a PS3 first? You could have just bought a 360+warranty.

Competition is always a good thing. The reason we are seeing such amazing games is because of the intense competition between Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo has kinda been doing their own thing for a while now, so I would hardly call them a compeditor.

Had Microsoft not entered the console war, Sony would have monopolized videogame consoles by now, and we would all be forced to play Lair on the PS3.

WHy? Cuz they mopped the floor with Sega with PS1 and then proceeded to sell more than a 100 million units? Yeah, they really should have stopped then . You fanboys kill me. Sony's mistake was that they got cocky. They thought they could release a 600 plus dollar system just because it's a Sony PS product and it plays Blu-ray. MS just released a system friendly to devs.

No offense taken. I bought a PS3 because I did some research and all the gaming mags said, unanimously mind you, that PS3 was the most powerful and the Sony reputation for exclusives sold me. I'm a big FF and MGS fan. Now I see the most powerful system will only be proven to be that when people learn "teh cell" meanwhile MS is giving us Bioshock and Gears. But the whole warranty thing and sending a system off is not for me. I'm big on getting my money's worth. That's why I bought a luxury car and not a Hyundai. Yeah the Hyundai has a great warranty but my luxury car, which has yet to give me a problem, doesn't yet it doesn't need it. Had I known then what I know know, in terms of GPU power, I may have choosen differently. Oh well. Next time around I'm waiting a year before I buy my console. Just to evaluate which system is offering what AND to take advantage of a price drop.
