Should Microsoft start treating the 360 hard drive as standard?

Aren't we getting to a point where we would have benefited a lot more from the 360 having a standard hard drive rather than making developers develop for the lowest common denominator? It's somewhat hard for me to believe that there are that many Core/Arcade owners who haven't bought a hard drive.

I say screw the five people who don't own the hard drive. If they don't own one, they probably don't care enough about the games that would use it anyway.

yeah, and they probably shouldn't price 20 gig HDDs at $100, either.* but that's life.
* if this information is outdated, forgive me, because I haven't heard anything about this. at all.
Only if the devs would make a promise and commit to making all future games actually use the damn hard drive. As of yet it's not been used much for anything other than demos and arcade games.

Well, that's the thing about not making sure your hardware is future proof at the get go. You can't realy go back and change it too much later on. I think the Xbox 360 is pretty much stuck where it is with the hard drive isn't standard situation especialy given the Xbox 360's rip-off price of $100 for a hard drive. By comparison, a new laptop-style hard drive (fully compatible with PS3 I might add) would be MUCH larger than 20GB for $100.

I would have bought a HDD if it wasn't so expensive. Too late for them to have installs.

It's to late for M$ to try and keep the 360 going. It's going to take a lot more than trying to use software to make the DVD9 and the old technology going now.

A hdd standard would greatly benefit the x360 but the cost of it being added would ultimately have to be passed onto the consumers which would certainly eliminate the price drop that analyst are predicting. Seeing the X360 hit that sweet $199 would give it some momentum leading into the holiday season.
