Ok, blu ray is a huge topic on this boards now (even though it obviously has no place here....) but this deals with the 360 and hi-def/HDD.
Do you think that the 360 should have either included all 360's with either HDD or a hi-def format?

if microsoft really cared about hd dvd they would of. i honestly think they are resposible for its downfall. they knew the PS3 would have blu-ray. i think they were throwing away their money by supporting toshiba in a half-a$$ way. and universal and paramount will be a blu-ray supporter by the end of the month!!!!prodiqy32i agree with you. i guess japanese company learned not to ever have MS back them up. lol MS only half aXX does it.
i would say hdd standard. because ps3 dmc4 doesnt have any load times, just like Uncharted for the ps3. so yah hdd would of been nice for the 360. robotech31
you have to install the game to decrease the load times
and 360's should've had an HDD standard
so far hi-def doesn't look like it's contributing much
ms should of at least made every sku with a hardrive since they don't have a hi-def format. not having a hdd in every 360 is going to bite them in the a$$ later.jessie5788
It already has. Then you have to remeber that MS has always put it to the consumer and then make a excuse for doing so later. The RROD problem they knew about long before the extended warranty deal, even then they would always say things break until repair centers started refusing to repair this problem and stating that they had no fix for this problem then and only then did MS admitt to the problem with the three year warranty for the RROD only.

Yeah, and Sony is the benevolent corporation who only cares about the consumer.
Sony, among other things, is a movie studio. Let's face it, the only reason Blu-ray was developed was for it's more restrictive DRM. They and their movie studio allies are forcing this expensive technology down gamer's and movie fan's throats. This is going to cost consumers a lot of money in the long run.
I don't want to even get into Sony's hidden spyware escapades of the past.

microsoft new hddvd wasnt going to win, the support from the companies was too obvious! bluray was the most supported new format ever, this is fact, do the research

HD DVD was 7-8 months from market when the 360 came out. Besides, the price would have been ungodly high to include it. They made a cheaper console and got a year head start. Thats two big things MS did.
With a standard HDD across all models, a hi-def dvd player is not needed.gromit007
Not true......
A) standard HDD doesn't play hi-def movies
B) standard HDD doesn't alleviate disc capacity concerns....
I do agree though. Hi-def DVD not needed. It's lasted this long and I've seen enough proof to convince me that relative to other game boxes PS3 games are "padded" with additional content....
not to say these games are inferior. They're definitely superior from a technical standpoint to the games on DVD-9 on Xbox 360, but, still. 360 fans don't seem to mind and it doesn't appear to affect the quality of the product dramatically. Then again, why Gears of War was rated 9.6 I will never understand.
From a financial perspective, DVD-9 made perfect sense. From a financial perspective, the core model made sense to the men in the ivory tower at Microsoft. In reality, it was an idiot move. HDD+DVD-9 would have secured a 5 year win for Microsoft, moreso than it is now....
No HDD caching and size-limits on Arcade downloads has got to be pretty weak for XBL planners and developers right now.
hard drive yes
HDM no.
maabus99
Yeah. I sincerely doubt they would have graciously maintained their losses and made a steady downward price spiral like Sony has with the PS3 thus far and that's BAD PR.
HDD definitely. Core version is a joke and the streaming benifits are huge for games.
HDDVD nope. MS has no real stake in the movie industry and it was way too early to add it without costing way way more.

A) A game console does not need to play hi0def movies
B) Storage capacity of a DVD is irrelevant when you can install games to the HDD. Crysis fits on a single DVD but expands to 15GBs or so when installed. Games can be spanned over multiple discs and installed and leave only one disc needed for playing a game. If you were to remove all of the redundant data on a PS3 game, they would not be much more than 9GB
So definately a HDD over a hi def player
HDD being standard is the correct answer. It would be a lot easier on developers and better for the consumer.
This is really no contest.
The HDD in every console would have been a better idea. The HD format is not necessarily as important and it would have dramatically driven up the cost of the console.
I can see why they released the Core and all, because there is a market for it, but it still kind sucks that devs have to consider it when making games. It seemed like a step backward considering the original Xbox had them in every unit. Devs did a better job of utilizing it on the first Xbox then they are doing with the 360.

you obviously havent read some of my other post reguarding the fact that blu-ray had the most support with sony-colombia-tristar, fox, disney paramount (before the buy), and warner. only universal didnt support blu-ray out of the top companies. nice try to flame though.
