Should MS leave console gaming and invest only on Cloud and PC?

Seeing as Xbox Series consoles are their new attempt and how they're failing to gather real interest outside forums, as exposed by data that shows that PS5 is ALREADY outselling the Xbox Series consoles:

It's safe to say MS already lost (again, 4th time?) the console battle and seeing how they're currently third place in console market share, holding a dismal 23% of share, should they give up and simply invest where they have an actual shot, Streaming and PC?

See, MS has a very good cloud infrastructure for cloud, in MS Azure and they have a Monopoly on PC with Windows, these are MS's strenghts. So I believe they should really give up console gaming as it's pretty clear they're fighting a losing battle, there's no real reason for MS to keep bleeding money and getting their asses kicked on the console space.

Nope because I enjoy playing their games on their consoles. As long as they keep providing me with that option and I feel that that option adequately supports my interests then I’ll keep going that route.

Again, I wrote about this before; I don't think Microsoft care about their console sales any more. Their ambition is to create a hardware-independent gaming platform, and the consoles are merely one entry point into that ecosystem.

They care more about Game Pass subs, hence the thinking behind the Series S. They're pursuing scaling and breadth of content, which is a long term project. If you really want to know what's driving Microsoft's strategy at this moment, I would suggest you check the Game Pass subs growth numbers instead.

Again, you don't understand. The consoles is one entry point among multiple, which itself comes in two flavours. In terms of entry point, Microsoft are pursuing an "all of the above" strategy. It's why they've even given up Windows Store exclusivity and have been launching their games on Steam.

Again, check the Game Pass subs numbers. That's what really matters.

u can play games on xbox locally or using cheap pc to streaming xbox games...

You act like Microsoft isn't selling millions of consoles. In 3 years if Microsoft hadn't sold any consoles and had a failed generation then this topic might have made sense, but at this point you just look like a fanboy clown trying to disguise your hate for Xbox with a question that has more to do with implying a statement than it does looking for an answer. Wouldn't make sense to stop making consoles, they make money by doing all 3, consoles, PC, cloud.

Just because a competitor Sony sold more in the launch year doesn't mean you stop doing something that's making you money.

Good games you mean. They release plenty of shovelware like Crackdown 3, Bleeding Edge, Grounded, Tell Me Why and Battlefrogs. The bangers just ain't there from Microsoft though.

@wonderwinner: I think Sony and Microsoft will exit the console space, it’s just a matter of time.

Internet speeds will only get faster, 5G is getting implemented everywhere and 6G is being developed.

Broadband speeds are also getting faster, I’ve just been offered a up to 2gb/sec broadband line at home.

I think we have just one more generation after the current that’s probably just a little under 15 years.

Series X and PS5 are basically just PC with a locked down OS for your living room TV

Even being last in sales doesn't equate to no profitability. With consoles locking in monthy subs for revenue month after month, It's not like the OG Xbox where lack of sales made Microsoft loose 7 billion dollars. Microsoft still makes profit on Xbox even if they end up in last place in sales, so why would they abandon a lucrative market?

And another thing about the sales numbers, both MS and PS have been sold out since launch, so the sales numbers don't make any sense, I have yet to walk into a store and see either available, thats the common sense proof that MS is doing just fine, and now that the Media is in MS pocket they will continue to sell.

MS doens't care about hardware sales. they are a software/subscription company. they will keep making "high end consoles" just to keep their name out there and can sell them at a loss to get people into the eco system but they real money will be Gamepass subs and purchases through their store and getting PC players to use and buy through their xbox app over steam. and with the streaming PC gamers won't need to constantly upgrade their PCs

@wonderwinner: Come on man, Series S is out selling PS5 in Japan, and out Google trending PS5 in both Russia and China, so truth, is that MS is a frightening train right now that is steadily picking up steam.

With Xbox having record sales and MS already developing the next Xbox, it looks like they are in the console market for at least the next 20 years again.

MS has the largest install base of any competitor so they will continue to make money hand over fist.

You don't really want that. What would cows talk about in between releases every 6-12 months?

@wonderwinner: Action I just did another Google trend search and MS and in the last 90 days MS has out trended Playstation world wide, which means Playstation is fading and MS is coming on strong, so to the original post Microsoft needs to keep doing what they are doing and turn the Playstation into a software company, kinda like Sega.
