Why? The Wii is still the top selling console and brings them pure profit. It would be pretty stupid if they decided to go handheld only.

actually it hasnt been the top selling console for the past year, but I still think the OP's point is dumb as Nintendo is only in the video game business unlike Microsoft and Sony.

No, considering most Nintendo first-party console games are great.

Over 80 million consoles sold this generation says no. Heck, the Wii sold almost as much as the 360 AND the PS3 COMBINED, why would they leave the console market after this behemoth of a success?

No they should make a proper console with standard control and motion gimmicks. So multi plats comes on 3 platforms.

No if they leave it will homogenize the market to Microsoft. Nintendo will not dev for Sony as they are competing in the handheld market and there will only be one console. As cool as the Xbox brand is competition is good and a variety of options is good. Imagine only being able to chose a Wii or PC.

So because they are slowing down a bit they should give up on consoles? Wii is slowing down because it has almost 90 million units sold .

I'm sure the Super Wii will be a resounding success and make Nintendo boat-loads of gold, so no.

Should Microsoft quit the console business and focus all their manpower on Windows? It's pretty evident that the Xbox is at the end of it's life cycle with only a handful of games announced...(or so the ps3 guys say). I'm very glad Nintendo doesn't announce all their .games 3-4 years in advance.

No, I have a great deal of respect for Nintendo, They are pretty much the ONLY player in the console market I wouldnt have go away, If either MS or Sony went away it would not be the biggest hit, since they target the same demographics, Nintendo is completely Unique.

I quite enjoy the Nintendo brand of consoles and handhelds, and I enjoy the things they try and do.

Well it would be a Microsoft console so it would be more like 360 and PC but Nintendo and Sony would be third parties and they would be at a handheld war.

I am actually thinking that more challengers would come to the console market like Apple or google maybe when Nintendo and Sony leave.

They have the #1 console in sales, so I'm not sure why slowing down a little would be an automatic quit. Sounds like loser talk to me. And given so many people have bought one, it stands to reason sales would slow down eventually; after all, most everyone who wants one probably already has one.

I'm sorry, but Mario/Pokemon/Zelda/Star Fox/Metroid/F-Zero would never bode well on Sony (or MS) systems. I have nothing against them, but I know for a fact that Ninty's IPs won't work as well on other systems that AREN'T Nintendo.

Why would Nintendo leave the console business now right after the Wii was an extremely successful system that raked them in mountains of cash?

I laffed. Does the Wii's commercial success due to a gimmick frustrate you? If anything, Nintendo now has even more reason to stay in the console business, being able to inject large amounts of funds into its R&D department. And it is the only "console" left that is keeping traditional console gaming alive, if only on life support. If anything, Microsoft should leave and work as a third party hardware consultant and software publisher. They really gave nothing left tying them to the industry.

They went from being last place in the home console wars to being the top of all time. They rule the console industry, and the HD consoles are doing everything in their power to imitate it. And you think there is a chance they would leave, just because the Japanese market is going handheld only? What about the rest of the world?

Not just Mario. Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero and Star Fox would as well.

Yes and some would just stop being made... I really hope all three companies do not pull a Sega. I doubt they will though as they all seem to be competant towards their consumers. As bad as the Ps3 600-500$ launch was it had the excuse of blueray I guess.

Nintendo's last three consoles have all been crummy compared to the competition so yes, they should keep as much self-respect as they can and declare they're focusing on handhelds only...
