Well, my PS3 ylod on me this morning. The only thing I've done different is to run my FAH on "expert" mode the last couple of days. I have an 80 gig BC 2007 model, so I'm out of the warranty period. Sony would not make an exception but said they would repair it for $149. They also said FAH wasn't there problem. What???? Isn't it on the browser??? Well, I guess it cost me $149 to donate 464 work units. I hope non of you run into this same problem. Do you agree that maybe they should match MS 3 year warranty?

whats ylod and fah? i never heard of these problems. no, i don't think it should have a 3 year warranty like microsoft because the ps3 doesn't have as much problems as the 360 has. sony would lose even more money on the ps3 if they fix something that has a 3 year warranty.

The 3 year warranty is in place solely due to the high failure rate of the 360. The PS3 failure rate is well within that of normal electronics, therefore why would they offer an extended warranty over the traditional manufacturer's warranty?

MS had to do that because the failure rate of the 360 was insane... something that doesn't happen with the PS3. At least not yet.

YLOD = Yellow Light of Death. I don't know what "FAH" is, though.

I think they meant "F@H", which is Folding at Home.

This, although I would like more console makers to take after MS and allow people to buy from them extended warranties for cheap. I like that extra piece of mind without spending tons of money.

Yeah, the extra warranty is an excellent option. Mandatory in the 360's case, imo.

My friends bluray quit working a few weeks ago. A 1 year warranty is worthless. And btw, Sony considers any dust in the consle as an act of God! They're warranty service is ridiculous...

The failure rate currently is not high enough for such a thing

But, if it keeps increasing I am sure Sony will consider it

The PS3 dosent need a 3 year warranty the failure rate is below 3%. The only reason the 360 has one is because of all the problems they have had with it.

PS3 hardware problems are so minimal that it doesnt warrant an extended warranty.

I wish they would, but it's understandable that they don't PS3 overheating (Yellow Light of Death) isn't nearly as common as the RROD. Plus 8/10 when you get YLOD it's mainly your fault. The 360 technical issues will happen even if you keep it in a dust free/cool temperature environment.

if you didnt deactivate your account you've lost a psn activation for good. I was on customer service with them for hours but they wouldnt give me my activation back. Plus they give you a refurbished model when you send your system back in so you lose another activation.

Absolutely they (and everyone else) should. If the console has a low failure rate, it won't cost them much... And to anyone who spends a big chunk of change on a console and has it fail, the failure rate of that console is 100% to that person - and every console has lemons. 3 years of coverage should be standard for consoles, since everyone goes into buying a console expecting it to last for years, and every console has failures that are no fault of the users. MS is doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. To those saying "Well, MS is only doing that because of the 360's failure rate," what does that have to do with the question? I'm guessing you haven't ever had a console crap out on you just through completely regular, well ventilated use... But when it happens and it's entirely not your fault and you're stuck plunking down $200 to $600 more, you realize you've been royally screwed.
