I think they should have just come out with an 80GB and 40GB from the very beginning instead of re-releasing different hardware variations. Both models should have had the Emotion Engine and the 40GB should have had less features. Wait a second sounds familiar..............It's stupid to keep on changing up the hardware. What do I know I'm only the consumer!
I bought the 60GB though and I'm happy, I just think that plan I came up with would have been the better choice.
Didn't someone from Sony say that they weren't going to confuse consumers with their SKU's? Sony's strategy has been balls since launch and they are still trying to iron it out.

Me too, actually I would even settle for the software BC of the 80gb, I just want BC! I have a bag full of PS2 games, I even have an unopened copy of DMC3 special edition that I never got a chance to play because my PS2 died, and I refuse to buy another (3rd) PS2.
Call me when Sony can get PS3 down to $300 with BC in tact and the Dual Shock 3 controller included.
I think they should bring back the 60 gig just because of what they promised day one on backward compatiblity. I know there are tons of gamers out there that have tons of PS1 and PS2 games that they would love to play on there ps3 less clutter plus you can trade in your older system towards your new system. PLUS why confuse costumers 40 80 60 hard drive room is not that big of an issue with a system with a upgradeable harddrive any way. There should be a 60 gig plus a 120 gig and that's final cause over!!!
Anybody who says its too expensive does not understand that its a mute point production cost is down plus the 60 gig is what they promised who is with me.
But haven't the prices gone down because of all the things they have stripped out? If they rereleased the 60gig with all its features, wouldn't it be expensive again? I have the 40gig and I'm fine. No BC is a bummer, but thats why i kept my PS2.
Well actually if you compare the 40gb to the 360 Pro, the 40gb is still a better deal than that 360 model. for 50 dollars more you get 20 more GBs of Space and a Blu-Ray player.

I think people who love to play PS2 games should contuine to game on thier PS2 if they had one. If you sold your PS2 to get a PS3 (like I did) then its alright I guess.
But theres a reason why its called the PS3, not the PS2.5 . People should make figure that in when they make that choice. Probably why Sony thought of the 40 gig in the first place. Although it still plays PS1 games which is weird. They don't even sell those anymore.
They should in case my ps3 breaks down. I want a direct replacement or repair not a 40. Don't tell me to hook my ps2 back up. I want to have the convenience of being able to play 3 generations without cord swapping.
So why have backward compatibility with PS1 but not PS2. As far as i care the 60 gig is the only true PS3 all others are just weak clones to the orginal. And the whole Ps2.5 arguement is dumb every ps2 has backward compatiblity with PS1 games

I feel the same way, I have never regretted paying release price for my 60 gig PS3. It seems that people wants everything but just not willing to pay for it. Sony has given these people what they wanted (a lower priced PS3) and yet they still complain.
