Should Sony milk PS4/PS4 Pro as much as possible or bring PS5 soon?

I'm ok with keeping the PS4 current systems as long as they continue to bring on the games. Sony games are still really great looking as it is. I think they can go at least another 2 years before they start to push a new system. This gen seems to have a lot of juice left. Plus, the more Sony waits, the better the PS5 will be. Don't you agree, SW?

So you're here fishing for positive reinforcement... Let's have Sony take the stage before the, "I love my console, do you?" threads.

We just saw that a system with the power and capabilities of Scorpio costs $500 to sell at a profit. Mainstream ("non-premium") console pricing is $400. Frankly, I want my next generation console to be capable of doing more than just playing current gen games in 4K. Next gen should unlock new types of games that can't be played on current gen systems.

We're not ready for PS5. We're just not. When the times comes, hopefully we will get a system that can not only play in native 4K but also bring about new worlds and gameplay which couldn't have been possible on older tech. Until then, happy to stick with PS4/Pro.

Next gen isn't ready. Announcing a PS5 would be DOA. New engines need to be built for it. We are 4 to 6 years away from next gen.

The xbox one x is still current gen, more like an xbox 1.5

PS4 will continue to outsell and have better games, and when ps5 comes out in 2018 the xbox brand will finally die.

Microsoft has given up this generation, why would Sony push new hardware now?

We won't see PS5 until 2020.

PS4 hardware and software are just selling too well.

https://twitter.com/ZhugeEX/status/874458756737839107

XBone still hasn't reached 30 million, lol.

But but the $500 Xbox One X is dropping in November....The Most Powerful Console Ever.

Good luck. Might also be the last Xbox ever.

I'm sure Xbox One is likely sitting at around 32 million or so, the trend all generation spanning the globe has been roughly 1.87:1 in the PlayStation 4's favor.

It's too early to announce the PS5. Unless the One X (or Microsoft generally) really makes an impact on the market Sony is going to ride with the PS4/Pro until at least 2020.

there's nothing to indicate Xbox One passed 29 million world wide and sold through to consumers.

2019 announcement with a 2020 release, Microsoft a year later.

Seven years of this kind of outdated specs is a nono. I wish it'd be announced next E3 and release early 2019. But it won't happen because ps4 is selling too well. I hope the X kills Sony money printing machine. I want a new console already.

I'm really not getting into this, all we know is how the system was selling which was 1.87:1 against the PlayStation 4 with the fat Xbox One, however that was before the Xbox One S which has no doubt strengthened sales for Microsoft a fair bit.

31 to 33 million seems like a reasonable estimate given empirical data and the introduction of more popular hardware.

How is it current gen when it offers a UltraBluray play and is 40% faster than its closest competitor. Lets not mention that its bandwidth is almost 4x more than its previous version. Video card and CPU generation jumps are usually 10-20%. The jump from XBone or XboneS is clearly generational.

The last thing developers need is a market refresh just as games are getting more and more expensive and time consuming to make.

If one studies the History of the PlayStation life cycle. Sony normally supports a PlayStation console on average for 10 years. 94 PS1

2k PS2

06 PS3

13 PS4

19-20 PS5

There is no need for a upgrade, yet. Sony has got new AAA games for 2018. Microsoft has nothing right now, just FH4 and Halo 6.

No point rushing out the PS5.

Need to wait before their can substantially upgrade the hardware yet keep costs down.

whats the panic here? why would they rush out a PS5? the X1X? going by PS4pro numbers there just isnt a huge demand for more powerful consoles. the X1X is more expensive again so i dont think sony need to hit panic stations.

the PS4 is selling well. software is selling well on it. the X1X is unlikely to change that. games are coming and the cost of development is still quite painful.

eventually the market will look for consoles that can do 4K properly. but thats not now and it wont be for a while yet.

1 in 5 PS4s sold is a pro. thats ahead of sonys expectations (which alone says a lot) and is still quite low. how many of those pro customers are new? how many would have just bought a PS4 if the pro didnt exist?

The Pro is largely shat, but it can push fauxK. Launch PS5 in a couple years, undersweep MS and bring GOOD exclusives.

The PS4 is in a pretty good position right now. I'm also not seeing any issues with the games that are being released these days. As long as it does well from a sales and performance perspective I don't really see a reason to rush the next gen. They should just take their time and release the best possible next gen hardward. And also I'd be pissed af if KH3 and FFVII Remake were announced for PS5. Like seriously lol
