needs a major redesign:
-more ergonomic
-analog placement like the 360
-less mashy triggers
-stronger rumble
-analog sticks need to be smaller and less slippery
When I play a game I don't pay attention to the "ergonomics" or the feel of the controller.
It does its job and works fine.
Sure, the analogs are a little slippery and not as great as the 360's but I'm not concerned about the controller that much.
One of the best controllers I've ever held has to be either the 360's or the Nintendo Gamecube's. Pressing the Z button itself was great fun.
I don't think Sony would completely change the controller, and it's quite interesting contemplating whether the Controller is primitive or whether it was just great for the PS1's time.
If it's not broken don't fix it right?
It's not as if the Playstation has ever expanded past graphical capabilities, unlike say Nintendo where it moved to heavy reliability on motion sensing (resulting in a complete overhaul of the controller).
Look at the Xbox controller. Very clunky, but when the 360 came around they fixed it up. Unless the next gen does something extraordinary like Virtual Reality Gaming, I only see the controllers getting slight modifications
So, in short, Slight modifications will improve it, but I don't want them to completely redesign it.
They don't need a redesign, but they need to make changes
A comfortable groove - so the controller fits comfortably in your hand during those long hour play sessions
The triggers need to be more sturdy and springy - also concave groove so your finger doesn't slide off (this big problem with some racing games)
R1 and L1 - needs to be clickable and durable
Analog sticks - needs to be durable with a springy feel, more like 360's analog sticks
Should Sony redesign the Playstation controller for the next Gen? jharv
The DualShock 2 was accepted by many magazines/gaming sites as the best controller ever. The only issue I have EVER heard regarding the DualSHock 3, is the triggers.
I think there great, but, wouldn't mind if they were inverted as well. Other than that, it's fantastic.
In fact, the Wii's CLA.SSIC controller uses the DualShcok Twin Analog scheme as well.
Remember too, that Sony did plan a new design, but were blasted FOR A LONG TIME as it had a Batarang look.
This is what the next gen PS controller will be like:
Just add a few more buttons, a wireless nunchuk and make it black.
Incidentally, if you make it gray instead of black or white, you get what the next gen Xbox controller will be lilke.
It's not what I want to happen because, frankly, I don't care. It's just what will happen. Fanboys... Well, just get used to the idea.
I really hate how both sticks are at the bottom. Probably just because I'm use to the 360.rappathered
Yeah, because the Twin Analog scheme was brought to console gaming by Sony 2 generation's ago. When M$ finally entered the market, they adapted it, but changed it up.
Yes. The analog sticks are alright, but the triggers suck. And the size of the controller is too small; where do my pinkies go :(? Make the controller 20% larger and I'll be happy.
Honestly though, these are just about the only changes I want. But knowing Sony (and Microsoft), they're going to do something stupid like head towards the casual gamer like Wii did. One casual machine is enough, we don't need more! The controllers could possibly be Wii-wannabes, but I hope it doesn't come to that.
Sony should redesign everything in their gaming division.
I'm kinda tired of the last 8 years, and it'll be more of the same the next 4 years, we need change.
All in all I like the overall layout and design, but after 3 generations it could definately do with a update; maybe a smoother version of the current shape (I'm probably one of the few people who liked the look of the "Boomerang" controller).
They'll just copy the Wii remote
Sony have turned into a joke of a company. the PS3 and PSP are rubbish and they're both in last place with the worst game sales.
I would honestly be happy if they made a controller along the lines of the Wii-mote+Nunchuck(Microsoft too). AS LONG AS they implement them in games accurately and put them to really good use.
That would be awesome.
Maybe not a complete overhaul, but it needs a few changes.II-FBIsniper-II

Making the grip more ergonomic. But I do like the triggers now that im used to them. They could maybe have a small edge at the bottom of it and have the sticks alittle tighter.
But keep the overall buttonand stick layout. and keep the D-pad the way it is.Not that sucky 360 D-pad.
Didnt vote. Only slightly. Th triggers are the only thing I really want changed. The analog placement is perfect to me, seeing as my left thumb and forefinger havent switched positions. I would like the controller to built out a little but I would understand if they didnt. Overll the DS is a great controller and a symbol of gaming itself.
Edit: Ooooh, and a black rubber grip with finger indentations along the underside of the controller would be nice.

OMG I think the GC controllers were worst ones last gen, try playing a shooter with the "c" stick. Plus Nintendo analogs always have weird groves so you cant rotate the thumbsticks. But I think that the Dualshock murders your thumbs with the placement. Are they allowed to put the analog sticks like MS? I'm pretty sure they couyld sue.
I guess so. I mean when something from MS is actually better than your product then you know you've done something wrong.Ilived
lol that was actualy funny XD :D

I think that PS3 controler is too light.
I like when controler is heavier so i feel it in my hands,i also think that controler is somehow not really ergonomic and mybe too small
