*sigh* GS GOTY, Most likely a shooter..

5 out of the 10 nominated are shooters, odds are in the favor of GOTY going to a shooter...Nothing against the genere.. but it's so oversaturated it makes me sick. What is the obsession with shooters these days? Don't these publications enjoy other generes? I give props to IGN last year...

Yeah, I voted CoD4. The SP and MP were both at extremely high quality levels IMO.

Yeah, SP is too overlooked nowadays. That's why shooters get so popular because the MP is just built in.

Consumers can't really complain. The reason why the market is infested with shooters is because this genre in known to have a lot of games that sell extremely well.

Millions of consumers that buy shooters= devs make more shooters.

It's sad but you're right, the GOTY will probably be a shooter, and I could see it being a shooter in the next several years as well.

Yeah, I been jumping around with it a litle bit now that I'm on break from college. I've got about 13 stars so far...it's pretty much the definition of pure light-hearted fun :D

I don't see whats so bad about it, granted I enjoy the FPS genre. However, good games shouldn't be given shaft just because there seems to be an overpopulation of them in it's genre.

Though I think Gamespot will do the right thing and give Super Mario Galaxy Game of the Year.

I hope that Halo 3 or OB doesn't win GOTY. I think Crysis, SMG, or WiC should win GOTY IMO.

Well, there were so many high quality shooters this year that they earned many of the top spots.

And rightfully so. Even if the genre is over saturated, that didn't stop these games from being some of the best games to be released this year.

Honestly, there isn't really anything wrong with there being so many shooters this year. It was just a big year for shooters. The majority of highly skilled developers made some high quality shooters.

Personally, I'm not a major fan of the genre and am in fact hoping for SMG to win but even I can admit that Bioshock was a real piece of good work.

Like i said, nothing against shooters, but there is alot of other great games out there, i mean honestly EVERY Fps nominated did something so great and different that they ALL deserve to be nominated? I'm not sure if they also forgot that there are TWO handhelds which both had stellar years... Phantom hourglass is groundbreaking..VideoGameGuy

I agree. If Super Mario Galaxy does not win GOTY, it will only prove how low we have sunk. Don't get me wrong, the FPS's that are nominated are good, but how often do you get a good platformer? When was the last platformer that was truly a wonderful and entertaining experience? High profile shooters, you get a bunch a year, but an amazing platformer? it's the only FPS this year that actually tries to push the genre .. the others have solid graphics, level design, multiplayer etc, but it's just what every shooter has, just with better execution

Rehash COD3 except change the setting and exchange QTEs for a knife, then add lock-on targeting. That is your guys choice for GOTY?

I voted Halo, I really enjoyed its SP, playing through it 8 times. There where so many fun moments in the campaign from the multiple scarab battles, air battles, all of Tsavo Highway, all of landfall et cetera. The multiplayer needs no introduction. Overall, it has to be how intertwined it is to XBL/Bungie. One source did an article on it siting how no other console game could match it's XBL experience, which is pretty much undeniable given the amount of things you could do.

I also voted Halo. It's the staple game in my 360 library, it's the game I keep going back to, it's the game that will never, ever get boring because of the community I've created for myself with the help of my friends. Not many games can say they foster that kind of experience. That's why I feel it deserved GOTY. (That is of course, in addition to what I felt was an excellent single player experience with a fantastic story, musical score, and gameplay elements)musicalmac

Well musicalmac, that is unacceptable as everyone will think we have some zeal for Halo 3. Understandably so, since most are too cowardly to express their opinions freely here in fear of the consensus. But never fear, as real, profound opinions always prosper.

I agree with you obviously, especially about the community. There are some real core Halo 3 players out there, I feel like it's the one game that single handedly diminished the line between console and PC-FPS'. The only thing it's lacking is the ability to create mods but the drive is definitely there among the community.
