Well... it's not - whether you think so or not. Just because you may think the graphics are on par with a 6th generation system doesn't make the entire console a 6th generation system.
Just think for a second.

Yea and they give you a new remote wow thats 7th gen.

Yes it is. :|Well it has been said that the Wii is pretty much a gamecube 1.5, so if you think thats enough of a hardware change to make you want to go out and buy a whole new product, just for a slight change, more power to you, but i personally think its bad, and hope this doesnt turn into a trend we see with future consoles.

And built-in wifi, Half a gig of built in flash memory, CPU&GPU twice as fast as GC version, internet browser, Virtual Console, The discs that Wii games are on have twice as much space as PS2 and Xbox and about 6 times as big as GC discs, on top of a controller unlike any other that has ever appeared on a home console, a control that not only has motion sensing but is also an IR pointer, has a built in speaker, rumble, and has memory so you can store you mii on.Dude the Wii is much more than a GC with a remote. It is most definitely 7th gen, and this is coming from someone who owns an Xbox 360. Personally, to me the Wii is a lot more revolutionary then a 360, the 360 just feels like an upgraded Xbox/PS2/GC, the Wii feels like something totally different.

So a new remote dose?
New remote, new system, new name, new features, new games, new way of playing, online, graphical update to an extent, I think all those, and some new ideas bundled together makes it next gen.[QUOTE="white_sox"]Graphics do not define a generation...

No... the fact that it came out during the 7th Generation does. And how could it possibly be a 6th Generation console when it's currently outselling all 7th Generation consoles at the same time?

Its basic math and logic. If Nintendo gamecube is a 6th generation console and Wii is the successor to the Gamecube, then we can conclude that Wii is the 7th generation console becasue 7 comes directly after 6.
Glad thats out of the way

Are you joking? Because the Gamecube is a sixth generation console. And as we know, 6 + 1 = 7, making the Wii a 7th Generation console...

Oh I thought we are assuming that the 6th generation is the current gen, my bad :P[QUOTE="1carus"][QUOTE="DivergeUnify"]Its basic math and logic. pfft, isen't that what all consoles have been since snes, NES 2.0, 360 is still just an xbox 2.0, same with ps3 being a ps2 2.0, also, that artical states development tools for wii were upgraded to the gamecube development tool 1.5, not the system, it was so that gamecube games in the works could be ported to wii easily by developers.[QUOTE="own1xon"][QUOTE="Shinno441"][QUOTE="KillaHalo2o9"]Well it has been said that the Wii is pretty much a gamecube 1.5, so if you think thats enough of a hardware change to make you want to go out and buy a whole new product, just for a slight change, more power to you, but i personally think its bad, and hope this doesnt turn into a trend we see with future consoles.

That's your opinion. I say it has worse games and better graphics.

"while the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are both at least an order of magnitude faster than their predecessors, the Wii has the processing power of one-and-a-half GameCubes with no noteworthy increases in functionality. This was done for two reasons: backwards compatibility with the GameCube and, more importantly, the very low cost. Developers have even told us that the transition guide (for GameCube developers moving to the Wii) is ten pages long and contains only very minor change"
pulled straight from the article.
The change between consoles have always been greater than what Wii is bringing to the table after last gen.
Graphics do not define a generation...
white_sox
The gen it comes out in is, go figure, directly related to the time it was released.
What a stupid thread. The Wii is a 7th generation system and the strength of it's hardware has no influence on that.

But Wii games competing with PS2 and PSP games might.
PSP is a seventh generation handheld... And the PS2 is still pumping out great games, so competing with it isn't insulting or "generation lowering".

Quoted so you can see again. Also, if you realize what the term "generation" actually means, you would know that the generations of gaming are completely based on NEW products released in a CERTIAN TIMEFRAME. Therefore, since the Wii is all new hardware and was released during the 7th generation, it is indeed a 7th generation console.
