https://www.ign.com/articles/konami-hails-silent-hill-2-remake-after-hitting-2-million-sales-milestone

Konami has hailed the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake after it shot through the 2 million sales mark.

Silent Hill 2 remake, developed by Bloober Team, went on sale on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024 (there’s no word on an Xbox Series X and S version yet), and just a few days later had sold one million copies. This was thought to have made Silent Hill 2 remake the fastest-selling Silent Hill game ever, but Konami has yet to rubber stamp that potential record.

“Since its release, Silent Hill 2 has received a multitude of accolades including several ‘perfect’ review scores, multiple award wins and nominations cementing itself as a timeless entry in the horror video game genre,” Konami said.

IGN’s Silent Hill 2 remake review returned an 8/10. We said: “Silent Hill 2 is a great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror.”

The sales success of the Silent Hill 2 remake will perhaps embolden Konami’s plans for the franchise, which have ramped up significantly in recent years. Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall are both still in the works, but perhaps Konami will also continue to remake past Silent Hill games. There's a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 coming, too.

Modders are doing eye-catching things with the Silent Hill 2 remake on PC, too, including removing hair sheen, the game’s famous fog, and even turning it into Sunny Hills.

The Silent Hill 2 remake features several new puzzles and redesigned maps, so if you need help navigating through it all, head to our Silent Hill 2 Walkthrough Hub. We've also got a comprehensive guide to the Silent Hill 2 Remake endings, all Key Locations in the game, and what changes in New Game+.

Amazing game, glad that Konami is happy with the sales. Have you played Silent Hill 2 Remake? Did you enjoy it? It’s the best horror game imo.

Honestly doesnt seem like a lot considering the effort that went into it.

It was a really good remake.

I'll check it out one of these days.

Been wanting to get back into horror in general; films, shows, and games. Just watched both of the Smile movies and they were excellent.

Silent Hill seems like a good game to play.

Selling about as well as the Dead Space remake, not bad.

Have my issues with this remake, but it's still far better than expected from Bloober, so praise well deserved and hope they sell a million more.

I believe it's bloobers best selling game.

I also believe that at the time bloober was the size of a AA studio.

So, I guess it failed then. 2 million sales from the possibility of 200 million users would suggest so.

Congrats!

It's now outsold the original Silent Hill 2, which sold just over 1 million units... While that might not sound like much today, 1M units was a large sales figure back when the game industry wasn't as large as it is today.

Yeah, just like GTA V. There were so many more possible users it could've had.

Look forward to playing it sometime in the future myself. Honestly though this makes more hopeful in a return to form for Konami in gaming for their other IP’s like Castlevania, Suikoden, Gradius, etc.

I liked it a lot. I'm shocked Konami and Bloober put out something so good (wished it had VR support though!). Replayed the game with the chainsaw. Went back and replayed The Short Message after that, and I'm looking forward to the next game they put out in this series.

What's with all the sarcasm?

2 million is a failure when it has a potential audience of 200 million. I mean a 1% attachment rate is somehow great.

Hopefully it continues to sell. The game was a great remake, though performance was spotty in areas.

@last_lap: Outside Resident Evil which can sell a entry with 5-8 million units Survival Horror games don't really push high numbers honestly. Think about games such as Signalis, The Evil Within 2, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, & Amnesia: The Bunker; all generally well praised Survival Horror games. None of them sold more than a few million. It's just a niche genre, when a game-archetype is known to scare people 'sometimes even get the passing reputation of giving players heart attacks' with high difficulty it tends to be off-putting to the average gaming customer.

So for a franchise that has been gone a long time and later games poorly received two million is fairly impressive for Silent Hill overall. It's roughly the same numbers as the Dead Space remake as well which for a none Resident Evil game is considered good.

Now is it pushing to Minecraft or Tetris sales? no. But neither is Resident Evil. And that's without question the biggest name in the genre.

It's a shame that there's some good games out there that don't sell much, then there's games like Fifa, NBA and CoD that sells a crazy amount.

Thought it was a silly statement. Is GTA V also be a failure then, conisdering how many PCs there are? Is every multiplatform game under 2 million in sales a failure? Makes no sense.

I think the dev and publisher is happy with the sales, and I don't think they see their game as a failure.

C'mon man using GTA 5 as an example is silly, it has sold more copy that PS5 sales and Steam mau users combined. So, it is no way or shape a failure with over 205 million copies sold.

Comparing GTA to SH is also silly.

Success of a game is not based on revenue - cost, it based on an undisclosed percentage of the gaming population for the supported hardware. Everyone knows this.😏

I don't think every AAA multiplatform game with 2 million in sales is a failure.

In SH2 Remake's case, you'd have to know what their budget was and what it needs to sell to make a nice profit in order to call it a failure or not. A game that makes a nice return isn't a failure in my view. A failure would be a game that doesn't make a profit. The argument that "it could've sold much more considering how many units its available for, so it's a failure" is silly. That is why I was silly back.

Majority games selling 1.5 million would be considered a success, it's brainrotted mentality to think otherwise.

The reason EA, Ubisoft, and Activision cast games as "failures" is because of over-extended development time and marketing campaign budgets. These companies have little self-control over a games budget and woefully overspend, plus have a set target for overall sales that are frankly unrealistic.

This is what people hire analysts for, Silent Hill doesn't fit in any of the above, and the sales expectations would be far lower. Wouldn't be surprised if two million was above expectations. Because again, that matches the sales of Dead Space remake.

@RSM-HQ: Yup. Dude calls a lot of games a failure for that reason, and I don't know why. To get attention, I guess.

@Litchie: not all AAA games cost the same to make either, Japanese ones are most likely half with the same amount of staff or less than those made in California
