Silly lemmings, you all must realize why the ps3 will beat the 360 in the end...

First off, the title was just a draw because every time I try to be mature about this matter it gets ignored so from here on it will be well spoken. Second, I am more towards the 360 than anything, but want the ps3 and wii(own a ps2 and gamecube).

Why I feel the 360 will fall short in sales(3rd) and the PS3 will come in at least second(the Wii was a surprise, congrats Nintendo):

What many lemmings and I guess sheep seem to forget is that the ps2 has well over 100,000,000 consoles sold and at least half will move onto athe ps3 sometime in it's lifetime. Why do you think that Sony is supporting the PS2 so much? Because when they do drop support in 2 years or 3, the PS3 will be at most 400$, affordable for all those PS2 owners now left with a console with limited to no support, just as the Xbox and Xbox 360

Now you might respond with teh games! And yes I do strongly agree that the 360's lineup is killer and it's future is definatley shaping up to be better than the original Xbox. However that won't cut it but will definatley help the next system in Microsoft's lineup. PS3 will have many ames by the time the PS2's support is cutoff by Sony, I think this is their plan, from the start. They are just trying to get all those who are willing to pay 600$ and trying to boost Blu-Ray sales.

So please do respond and let us discuss this matter, I really would love a just argument as to what the outcome will be, i got an hour.

What ADD lemmings dont understand is that Sony, unlike Microsoft, gameplans for the FUTURE.

They released a very future proof product at $600 knowing good and well it wouldnt set the world on fire but it would LASTunlike another console

They're not expecting everyone to get one at $500 during its first year of release. They expect the sales to pick up once the exclusive franchises hit in '08

I agree with you.

However, I'm not part of that 100+ million install base (really probably about 75 million since people had to buy new systems) that will buy a PS3. I know 7 other people who got a 360 after being PS2 owners(and Sony fanboys) and said they would not get PS3 for the same reason I have. So, 360 is stealing probably a few million PS2 owners, and alot of the casuals that owned a PS2 will probably go to the Wii. Even with that said, I still think they will outsell the 360, it just won't be by as big of a gap as last gen. Next gen, maybe third time can bea charm for MS, atleast I hope so.

Sony's arrogance has gone too far, i'm not sure if you've heard the comments they have said, but I suggest you really look into it.

Of the 100+ million PS2 owners, a vast majority has a very small (if at all) affiliation (emotional or otherwise) to the Playstation brand. That, and You could've made this argument to forecast the eventual success of the N64.

There seem to be a few assumptions that we really can't be certain about. Half of PS2 users will move over to PS3? link?

With the price drop argument wouldn't you expect Microsoft to do something similar, to keep their console competitively priced? So a consumer will be going into the stores and will see their beloved Playstation more expensive than a console with a handful of games missing, but a handful that are missing from the PS3.It seems so strange that in so many of these threads the major thing the PS3 has is the PS2 users. Does that mean that they WILL beat the 360? Not necessarily, if that were true we'd still be seeing Nintendo vs Sega generations. But times change.

I'd rather you didn't refer to me like I was a 360, it is only one of three current gen formats that I own and besides that I'm not a console.

The PS3 can beat the 360s best. Fair enough, give me some proof of this and theres no problem there.

I never said the lowest priced console wins, I was working on the economic principle of the rational consumer. With two consoles offering very similar games (exclusives are few in numbercompared to the multiplats) but at different prices the rational consumer would most likely choose the cheapest option.

From your post it seems like you make your judgement purely by looking at the PS3, while taking no notice of the 360. Yes PS3 will have some major exclusives out at that point, as will the 360. The only difference is that the PS3 is still playing catch-up.

What logic, you think all those ps2 owners will be totally ignorant to the ps3 and will never move on, ignore the support for ps2 this far into it's lifetime(GOW 2 is still the hihest ranked game this year). Come on man,360 will close down on the market share for sure but i feel it won't stay ahead of the ps3 for too long.

I agree. This gen will be much more evened out, but I do see Xbox 360 coming in 3rd because it caters to the core western audiance mainly, and won't be on the market as long as the PS3.Trading_Zoner

There are simply too many assumptions in this post. Why will all the PS2 owners buy a PS3? I had a PS2 yet I have no intention of getting a PS3 at this time. There are many people who feel the same, especially as the 360 is constantly proving it can play games just as well for almost half the price.

Name brand loyalty didn't help the N64 beat the PS1, you just can't rely on it. People care more about good games and saving cash then a stupid logo on a console.

I know a kid who had dozens of PS2 games and for his birthday he wanted an Xbox 360, which he got yesterday. That's at least one PS2 owner who converted to Xbox 360 and did so because of content. He wants to play Halo and Gears of War.

What the TC fails to realize is that the reason why the PS2 was so amazingly successful last gen is because it had the great combination of price and content to help drive big sales which, by the way, didn't really take off until the console hit $199. That's when it went into the upper stratosphere of sales success.

The landscape is now very much different. The Xbox 360 is the cheaper console and it has currently the most content. It has Madden, Halo, and GTA, all elite franchises. The PS3 will always, always be the most expensive alternative and even with a loser price point of $499, which included 5 free Blu-Ray movies, it STILL couldn't outsell the Xbox 360 in July.

When Microsoft hits $299 for the Premium, they will be sitting pretty and comfortably.
