Since the PS3 can't handle Skyrim can the Wii U?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Yes. Skyrim is starved for memory on the PS3 but the Wii U has more than enough RAM.

This. I actually like Nintendo giving devs 1GB Ram, seems like a lot for a console (with this power)

Bethesda doesn't even know what the issue is and you say is the Ram? You either know something that they don't or you're full of ***. Because if it were a Ram issue they could fix everything by downgrading the graphics, resolution, etc. but that isn't the problem.

Of course, the reason the PS3 has problems with Skyrim is the fact that it's 512 MB of Ram is split between the game and the OS, so the game only has 256 MB of Ram to work with. Thats why the 360 version doesn't have problems, it's 512 MB isn't split, and it has an extra 10MB of EDRam on the die to run the OS in the background. Therefor, it is possible for a 360 game to have nearly double the Ram to work with as a PS3 at a given time. Ram is essential to loading large environments, which is why the PS3 version suffers. The Wii U has 2GB of Ram, 4x as much as current consoles and 8x as much as the PS3 has for Skyrim. It will be able to handle Skyrim and then some.Since the PS3 can't handle Skyrim can the Wii U?

Well, I think they learned their lesson with the Wii. Games like Xenoblade, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and several others put a massive strain on the disc drive due to the fact that most of those games had to constantly stream data off the disc. It's nice to see Nintendo take a proactive approach to prevent the same thing from happening on the Wii U. 1 GB may be alot, but I would rather see hardware makers play it safe then have to go down a route that either wears out the system quicker, or is too much for the system to handle due to limited ram.
lol @ this question
if the 360 only has 512 and the u has 1 gig for games ------ that should be an easy answer! yes it can
and it has an extra gig for os , so 2 gigs total vs 522 mb (w the 10 edram )
the wii u is a next gen console after all
It could I guess. I'd imagine anyone who isn't a completely blind sheep would have bought Skyrim by now if they really wanted it though. (Probably could be said of some of the other 3rd party games lined up for the system like Mass Effect 3 and Arkham City, but what do I know.)
So,ram now determines gen?lol @ this question

[QUOTE="mariokart64fan"]So,ram now determines gen? Time scale. I reckon he just means it's coming 6 years after the last console, so obviously it has better hardware and can run games better then old machines.lol @ this question

Out of those games you listed I didn't purchase Mass Effect 3. I was waiting for the price to go down on the PC version since I have both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 on Steam. It could I guess. That's actually a good point. The Wii U being current-gen power means that amount of RAM really is a good amount to work with when taking into account the other specs of the machine.[QUOTE="ActionRemix"]

Console ram is much more expensive than PC ram that you install yourself.

For the eDram..sure. Not for DDR3 RAM. maybe. i was just looking at some figures there and from the PS1 to the PS2 sony increased the ram by 16X. same for the jump from PS2 to PS3. so that would make it 8GB for next gens if (and its a big IF) sony go the same route again. MS (who in fairness only have made 2 consoles so no pattern can really be established) increased the ram by 8X from xbox1 to 360. Nintendo made a 32X jump in ram roughly from the nes to the snes, 32X again for the jump from snes to N64 (64X if the expansion pack is included), but then only 11X from the n64 to the GC (or 5.5X if the N64 cart is included) and a 2X jump from the GC to the wii. the jump from wii to wiiu is around 13X (or 26X if we also include the non gaming ram in the system). so its possible to have 8GB in a next gen system if someone sticks to the usual hardware jump. But you would have to have a pretty hefty set of specs to back up 8GB of ram. yes 8GB of ram is cheap to pop in. but if the GPU is not powerful enough to render the kind of textures and level data or the CPU is not up to it then the 8GB is wasted. a consoles design is about finding the right balance of specs given a certain budget. if they are using something like a GTX 680 then 8GB could be very useful. if its something more like a low end 620 then 8GB is a complete waste of time.At least Nintendo fanboys won't be blaming BethesdaAs much as SW wants to deny it, the Wii U IS more powerful than either of the HD twins and could definitely handle it AND the DLC.
