Since the PS3 is cheaper overall than the 360 then why...

Sony claims that the 360 is more expensive than the PS3 when you add in all the extras and include the cost of live. Since the PS3 is such a great value and clearly cheaper than the 360...then why can't it even sell 1/2 as many 360 in January?

My favorite excuse I hear is this one:

"People are dumb and don't know any better. They don't know that PS3 is the way better value in the long run. The power of The Cell and the Blu-Ray easily make it the best buy. Once the PS3 drops its price, it will tremendously outsell the XBox3fixme."

There are many possible reasons,

1) They don't care and want specific games on the console

2) They don't know any better

3) They don't use or buy features that could make it cost more

4) Popularity

are just a few.

I've been saying this from the beginning...

360 is not ALWAYS the cheaper console.

It depends on the preference of the consumer.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. But one could afford a PS3 at it's initial luanch price on those pennies :P

The ps3 is not cheaper by any stretch of the imagination.

$199 + $20 = Xbox w/Hard drive

$399 = Ps3 w/Hard drive

Where is the cheaper? Ps3 is the better console, yes, but you pay a premium for quality.

It's more expensive if you want ever accessory they name. You don't need a wireless adapter, run a long wire, or use a laptop (if available). If you really want the wireless adapter you can find them on ebay for much cheaper, and there are places selling them brand new for 87 bucks.And you can now get a 20GB hard drive for 20 bucks. So 200+20+87=$307. That's $93 cheaper than the PS3. So the Xbox 360 is in fact cheaper.Innocentguy757

If you're going to throw out numbers as evidence at least do it properly.

Now if you'll read more carefully, I didn't say which one is of better value; I stated that the 360 conceals a lot of its hidden costs, many of which are often necessary to provide an acceptable gaming experience (online services, wireless connectivity, memory storage). It's a marketing technique, and a good one at that by Microsoft, as many of those that would otherwise be unsure of which console to purchase went with the 360.

There was tons of adverts late last year saying how the 360 cost just £120, cheaper than nearly everything else on the market, even the wii.

now we all know thats for the arcade model, with no wifi or hard drive. We also know that you must pay a further £30 a year t play online.

But the average customer watching that video doesnt... Doesnt know about RROD either :|

Value and NEED aren't the same thing, and remember too,, you are comparing two products that did come out a year apart.

The bottomline is soccer moms across the country don't care about Value, as much as overall price. $200 is cheap, and the grandparents can buy the $100 HDD, Xbox Live, etc.

You should know how Xmas works.

about 80% of my friends and family can not see the diff between dvd and blu ray or even care for that matter.

and the blu ray player in the ps3 puts the price up on the ps3 to much i.e reason for it failing.

if sony was to bring out a version without the blu ray player then it would have a lower price then ps3 would sell alot faster and more but that is not what sony want they want the blu ray being pushed on the public, once again ,,,,fail big time.

Simply because many folk don't care about the extras

People are happy with their 60gb or 20gb hard drives

only 17 million Live users(gold & silver) and 28 million 360's

even if you say it's 80% gold members ... which lets face it it won't be .. that's still 50% of 360's that have never touched online !

personally i couldn't live without the hard drive but i would bet money on the number of Arcade 360's getting upgraded with a HDD to be very ... VERY low

believe it or not some people just want to switch on , play madden/.fifa for and hour and switch off !!!

i get really annoyed when i show people true hd with sound and they go oh like a dvd with surround sound then , lol! i spent about £3000+ getting the best pic and sound and they go dvd with surround sound, i could kill them it just alot of people do not see the big diff :(

As long as you can see the difference then that's ok ... but yeah i guess most people unless they see everything side by side wouldn't notice the difference... but as with anything get them using it for a couple of months then send them back to SD and watch them all come round begging for the HD kit back

360 costs 199$ and PS3 399$, that is a 200$ difference (PS3 costs 100% more)

The 199$ 360 Aracde can play 99% of 360 games and the 399$ PS3 100% of PS3 games, that is a 1% difference

So, people care more about the 100% difference than the 1% difference
