In one corner, we have the newcomer Xbox, the lunchbox/gaming system hybrid GameCube, and the god of all home consoles, the PS2. Their trainers are the GameBoy Advance and the Sega Dreamcast, although the latter seems to have gone missing.

VS

In the other corner, it's known for acting as the world's most videogamey George Foreman Grill, the Xbox 360, the perpetually down but not out PS3, and the winner in those who like gaming the Wii. Their trainers are the Sony PSP and the Nintendo (Go)DS, magically blessed by the pure brilliance of 999.

Which generation did you like more?

Gen 7 pretty much combined all Generations together thanks to Digital Download.

Gen 8 is already behind on this btw.

Gen 6. I had way more fun with the PC, DC, GCN, Xbox, and GBA than I did with the PC, 360, PS3, Wii, and DS in gen 7. PS2 and PSP were dust collectors, so they cancel out.

The one where devs actually released finished games and not locked parts of them behind a paywall, better known as "DLC"

The one that isn't inflated by a million FPS's.

The one where all genres and new IPs got shown love, not just the ones that make money.

The one where no one gave a **** about game scores from "Journalists"(LOL) and just enjoyed them regardless.

Gen 7 sucks Camel balls compared to 6 yo.

For me the question is a bit like: "Who was the best boxer: 10 years old Mike Tyson, or 18 years old Mike Tyson?". Gaming just evolves so much all the time I feel. I have no urge whatsever to replay 6th gen games (when I have tried I have ended up disapointed). So to answer the question 7th gen win for me.

Is this a joke? 6 by a mile.

7 (if that was the PS3/360 era) is my least favorite console generation behind 1.

This generation (albeit early) is already shaping up to be a KILLER gen. unlike last gen.

My taste is flawless. 7th gen made Shadow of the Colossus waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the shitty 6th gen version.

the biggest problem with gen 7 is that the production costs of HD gaming got a bit out of control. The big companies are the only ones who can consistently put out games that don't come across as cheap trash. Companies tend to stick with what works now, instead of trying to be a bit weird and risk losing money.

Gen 6 had that issue as well but it was much less of a problem. For the life of me I don't know how the middle market will survive at all in the 8th gen.

It's my most played game of all time. The replayability is pretty insane and I always seem to find some one more little detail that I hadn't noticed in previous playthroughs.

I'll get one eventually and the MGS HD Collection will probably be my first purchase despite already owning the HD Collection on both the 360 and PS3 lol :P

Does being able to play games from sixth generation (and previous) on seventh generation systems count toward their overall library? Because that renders the entire discussion moot.

6th gen had awesome games like Jade empire, mgs2 and 3 alongside games like Punisher. But 7th gen blows it out the water. just think of Cod, fallout, dead space, bad company, gears, alan wake, darksiders, batman, battlefield, homefront, condemned, the darkness, dragons dogma, halo, forza, Pgr, uncharted, Frontlines- fuel of war, multiplayer, better control, graphics, sound etc. besides...6th gen has some awful fps games. (remember Rainbow six lmao. worst game ever)

I will say that the ps2 had loads of good games as did Gc and Xbox. What a stupid thread.

btw....8th gen's gonna be epic. Cod ghosts and Ryse are my personal favs...but I can't wait for the next Cod.

7th gen had way too many shooters. If you didn't like shooters, it wasn't a good gen for you. Thankfully, I do like them. But friends of mine who primarily play RPG and action-adventure games felt a bit left out.

LOL I am probably going to start a confusing debate here but we are actually just starting generation 7, weird init.

But i noticed everyone including specialist media are claiming this is generation 8 when in fact it is generation 7

So to correct you, you meant generation 5 vs generation 6

I was a PC gamer during whole 6th gen, turned into cow with PS3, and I have to say I'm enjoying 7th gen much more. PC gaming was already in decline during the years 2001 - 2007. Except a few really great games (Warcraft 3 comes ot mind), traditional PC genres were already a thing of the past (best turn based strategies, best point and click adventures, best dungeon crawlers, etc. all come from 90's) and console ports were always rubbish to play on PC in my opinion.

I'm actually even now finding out the great games I missed by being a PC-only gamer back then, like ICO, SotC, Zelda WW, Metroid Prime and many others.

4th generation would be my favorite. Between the Mega Drive's shmups and fast paced action sidescrollers and the SNES's platformers and JRPGs, it could probably suffice for my entire life.

6th generation would be my 2nd favorite. DC, PS2, GC and Xbox would last me yet another lifetime aswell.

I absolutely loved the 6th gen, I used to own almost all the systems (a gaming PC, Xbox, PS2). I had a real ball with them. The games are so many, it'd take me weeks to finish up this list.

i liked the SNES generation. maybe cause im older now, but i don't get excited about any of the current systems.

between sixth and seventh gen, i'd go with the seventh. I had a lot more fun xbox 360 games then i did on the original xbox, which had very little. i had a ps2 an ps3, but i had very few games on those systems.

The genre doesn't matter, the game itself in the genre does, and generation 6 has many more games that i enjoy.

Personal examples:

Burnout 3: Takedown and F-Zero GX are still the height of the arcade racing genre

Panzer Dragoon Orta is by far still the height of the rail shooter genre

The JRPGs on the PS2 & Gamecube dwarfs any system(s) from gen.7 in quantity and quality

etc.

6th gen. Wii has 3, count em', games that I kept which were all fantastic, but that number's anemic and compared to gamecube it's even worse. The Wii mote needed tons of improvements, and at the end of the day was a secondary controller. Compare all that to the cube, no contest.

Also the GBA kills DS, I love the GBA.

Ps3 was the only console vastly better than its predecessor, partly because it got most of the best games on it in the form of vastly improved collections, and got a ton of refreshing new games itself. Really the only con with it was the slow start, all in all, this was the best console by far I have to say.

360 is hardly worth mentioning these days, and looking back it only ever looked good because of how poorly Ps3 did at the start, games wise.

once again you dudes are letting your emotions and nostalgia make your decisions as opposed to looking at the games.

7th gen crushed the 6th in games.

it is hardly even a contest.

bioshock alone is almost better than the entirety of 6th gen and it is what? a middle of the pack game for the 7th gen?

@mems_1224: Only if you didn't have a PS2.

Xbox and GC had garbage libraries.

PC was great as always... But PS2 man... just shat over anything.

7th gen was more balanced than any other generation although PS3/PC was still the best route, just like the gen before.
