Judging souly from what I've read and seen, it won't be game of the year, nor will it measure up to other 3D Zelda titles. Still, it will be a great game.
Hmm ... Uncharted, Skyrim, Rage, Demon Souls, Gears, Infamous, Revelations, Battlefield, Resistance, Arkham City, Deus Ex, LPB ... I gonna bet one of these games gets it. The numbers are stacked against Skyward but theres no point counting it out. ESPCIALLY since nobody has played it significantly.
It's possible, but I won't be playing the demo until next week, so I can't really judge it yet. In any case...Xenoblade is mostly amazing, so the bar for Wii GOTY has already been set pretty high.
So what are we basing this off of? The fact that it's another Zelda game or good reason? Honestly, I haven't kept up with the game. I've seen a couple trailers and thats it.

The latest trailers are looking pretty sweet, and Nintendo have spent quite a few years polishing this one up (they had a lot to prove after TP), so it's pretty much assured to be a top-quality game.
Whether it'll be good enough to be the best game of the year is another matter. We simply don't know - we haven't played it, and we haven't played a heap of other big titles coming out later in the year.
Not even Mario Galaxy 2 managed a GOTY award on this site (though it did on others), so i'm pretty much certain that Skyward wont. What they do have is the potential to pull off another Mario Galaxy 2 with Zelda, it would be incredibly cool if they manage.
It has to beat TW2 to be my goty and that is gonna take some doing, if any game can then it would be a Zelda but I just don't seem to be able to get hyped for SS :(.
I have not played it nor a mryiad of other games released this year but Skyward Sword alone is going to push me to buy a Wii. That should say something!

Agreed. Even if Skyward Sword gets a 9.5, GameSpot is too biased for that. It'll probably be Gears of War 3 or Uncharted 3 as GOTY.

My personal GOTY so far has been Radiant Historia, but I have high hopes for this one. It's as if Nintendo really went all out in making this the most grand Zelda game ever, pulling out all the stops. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out...
Might be a good idea to wait & see if it at least gets the AAA nod before talking GOTY I mean the timing is such ( "N" you jokester you, once again launching a Zelda game on what will be soon, your last gen console :twisted: ) that SS could be TP all over again. :shock: but heck, even then, Rage, Skyrim, Gears 3 & FM4 and some others will have something to say concerning GOTY. :P
Zelda is gonna be up there. I think some of it will have to do with the controls. If they work well I think critics will fall in love with the game. no matter what, though I'm pretty sure some people are going to be thinking in the back of thier head "this sort of works but I really wish I could just plug in a gamecube controller." Then again GOTY is a press award so perhaps some publication out there will give it that distinction.
